  • General Chit Chat Thread

I thought I would start a thread for general chat where we can post our random thoughts or anything that anyone would like to share so that other threads don't get derailed. I know I am guilty of this and freely admit it. This is because I think so highly of a lot of people on here and feel comfortable just sharing anything I think anyone would like to talk about. So please feel free to post whatever you would like as long as it's respectful and within the forum guidelines. The idea is as if we are sitting at Central Perk like in Friends and just have a catch up, so feel free to bring your beverages.
ism22 we can do our war and peace posts in here

Mmm general chit chat. I think the thread title is too broad which scares people off as we don't know where to begin. The things that are top of my mind at the moment are the price of groceries, the amount of gas I am going through at the already trying to stop our family from freezing to death and the recent stock market crash damaging our super when we're getting so close to retirement. Talk about very annoying timing. Maybe all those topics are too boring though?

Not all MR as these are the things bothering all our households..nothing boring about that..Yes everything you post is valid and relevant..my super has been making me sea sick...as I work for the bank, it's right there in front of me..all day..along with reading documents on everything you mentioned...I stick to my budget when shopping and some things I will never buy unless they are on special. Anyone can post anything in this thread and no one should be afraid or shy to do so. Sometimes we need to vent or let off steam or need a metaphorical shoulder to cry or chat to without bothering friends or family..we used to have a similar one years ago called What's On Your Mind...it was very popular back then..if you need to talk about it then it's not boring...

I honestly think all this stuff going on in the world at the moment, with wars and pandemics and inflation and whatever else I’ve forgotten, is doing my head in. I imagined a nice quiet life when the kids grew up, with some travel, renovating the house, gardening, attending more roosters games, more concerts etc. But what do we have? The world is going mad. Maybe we’ve just been too spoilt for the past decade or so.

No this is happening by design people hzve bern saying this for the last two years Most though would not or did not want to listen. A result of pointless lockdowns closures of business and generally bringing the economy to a stand still. With the govt then giving out free money for everyone to stay at home watch Netflix shop with Amazon this was always coming. Throw in well timed wars that affect power and gas Then the WEF slogan of you will own nothing and be happy is closer than most think.

Time for some reflection. You have locked down stayed away from your family friends been unable to travel, unable to attend loved ones funerals or even hold their hands on their death beds, you are unable to see families new borns, attend weddings christenings and travel and so on. All for a virus with a worldwide survival rate of over 99 percent.

You have also been a good compliant little citizen worn your mask and taken your vaccine after being told it was safe and effective and that it has a high rate of stopping transmission only to find out it does nothing of the sort and that taking your vaccine does not stop you getting sick does not stop you from passing your sickness on to others But you have still been a good compliant citizen for the greater good.

What is your reward for being a good compliant citizen. You come out of lockdown see your friends families attend weddings funerals see new borns and go to christenings. All to be then hit with rising inflation across food petrol power. Then because you have been such good compliant citizens you get hit with interest rate rises, if you rent this is passed on to you by your landlord who is paying off a mortgage, and even if they are not they will do so just because they can. Meanwhile the value of your home is decreasing due to rising rates your superannuation is copping a battering ruining your retirement plans before your very eyes. Basically you are poorer in every single financial aspect. Aren’t you just so glad you have been a good little compliant citizen over the last two years and never questioned a thing all in the name of the greater good.

This is what is on my mind.

Gee thanks Andy for that depressing take on what’s on my mind at the moment. I think that belongs in the multiple covid threads that must still exist on here. Anyway I take your point but I think the floods also had something to do with why I refuse to buy lettuce at the moment.

It was what was on my mind snd definately something for others to reflect upon. The floods were engineered by cloud seeding The weather can now be manipulated by man We really have evolved as a species This is also something else we should all take a moment out and reflect upon Didn’t take long though for someone to object to what another posted or say it belongs elsewhere That is what is now on my mind That and why some lazy person here won’t get off there arse snd make me a cup of tea before I head to the pub to watch the fight

PS It’s ok though as we are all in this together That is apart from my issue with the cup of tea I’m alone on that one

Today it just all gets better and better. We now have an energy crisis and are being told to conserve power or risk blackouts. We are the most energy rich country in the world. How on earth can we have a crisis such as this. But everything is ok as we are all on this together.

Yep the energy crisis is ridiculous when we export so much of our energy overseas. At a time when we are experiencing the coldest start to winter I can ever remember. It's really not supposed to get this cold in Canberra until late June / July. I was reading yesterday that we could have set a record for the coldest start to June here on record.

Don’t you just hate it sitting on a beach near your favourite tree connecting with nature and reflecting on life when a dirty cloud ⛅️ comes and steals your beautiful warm ☀️ You know sometimes life is just so unfair

Five grand wiped off my super today...sigh..I did say I want to continue working until I am 70 anyway as I can't sit still and hate being idle. I understand completely though for those who have worked hard raising children and grandchildren to keep you occupied in retirement. I don't have that so I'll keep working so I can continue to afford to make a fuss over and spoil other people's children.

I know it’s depressing isn’t it? My other half has the bigger super as he didn’t take time off for kids and he’s only a few years away from resigning and deferring his super to claim down the track. So it’s quite annoying for this to happen so late in our plans. Ah well what can you do! I hope I get a few grandkids to spoil but my daughter has told me she’s not having kids haha. But she and my son are still young so I may not get any joy there until I’m mid 60s or older.
