  • Julian Assange

For a man who has only published the truths held by governments and their agencies is facing a very grim outlook. Now that the UK has approved the demands for his extradition to the USA, I thought a poll to gauge reader sentiment was worthy given the allegiances some on here have shown to the crown, freedom and choice fighters, jingoistic Aussies and Amerophiles.

Who do you support in the persecution of Julian Assange?
    6
Free Julian, free the press, set the truth free
    66.67%
    4
Mother England. Yes mummy, more bitty?
    0%
    0
Uncle Sam. World Police keep us safe
    16.67%
    1
    Jellyback Australia. Sigh

I hear about this outrage on a daily basis. Free Julian Assange and free him now.

      Terrible news.
I would be very scared if I was him.

This is a very serious matter. A matter of national outrage. How every Australian is not up in arms about this is just inconceivable to me. I would give all the water in the Ganges to see Julian freed.

There’s options that fit both your responses. Maybe you could say a prayer for him Coat?

                      My thoughts...

                      - He's a wanka who has allegedly aided and abetted the hacking of US government systems. Further, he HEAVILY doctored a video of collateral damage to try and make soldiers (who were already going through hell) quite publicly look like a bunch of murdering d!ckheads. This footage was classified for good reason. Assange's doctoring of it + unauthorised handling of it had significant capacity to damage the US + its allies' position.

                      - Everybody deserves a day in court. He has the best lawyers that money can buy and as a lawyer, I don't buy into conspiracy theories that the US courts are cooked. I do, however, believe he deserves a fair day in court. Happy to accept the outcome.

                      - An overarching concern is that he isn't a US citizen and yet he's being alleged of breaking US laws. He's failed to establish that he should not be extradited on factual grounds and is now going down the path of saying a trial would push him over the edge. See how his appeal goes but I don't think the government should be stepping in to try and defeat valid judicial processes. That's what the courts are for.

                      - He's not accused of 'telling the truth'. He's accused of hacking systems, coercing soldiers of a close ally to betray their obligations (for which the said person has paid heavily), POTENTIALLY he colluded with Russia in an attempt to spoil a US election and his one known leak is not 'the truth', it's a doctored piece of bollocks that put the safety/wellbeing of soldiers at risk. I don't see this as being special stuff that deserves some sort exemption from valid court processes. Try him. See how it goes. Happy to accept the result, recognising there's no doubt complex legal proceedings to be had that are well above my paygrade...

Yeah cos ismaels conspiracy theory is much more plausible. These deep fakes are very convincing.

There are many people in America, including politicians, who want to put him in one of their death chambers and subject him to premeditated, cold-blooded killing by the state.
US Govt...federal law...Biden has banned all federal executions....so he might be lucky.

Executed or being locked in a small prison cell for the rest of his life.
                              Not much of a choice.
Assange was very foolish to do the things he did. If he'd asked my advice before setting off on his crusade I would've said to him:
                              "Are you nutz"?
"You can get into big trouble messing around with what you're intending...especially if US national security is involved".
