Airport 1977, yeah good but not great.

    Airport 1979 - The Concord - Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

I always thought the Tenerife Aiport crash between the KLM plane and the Pan-Am Boeing 747's was the best airport disaster movie.

I think when one of those Airbus A380 wide body planes goes down and takes 560 odd people out with it, that will be the worst.

Chook mate, you forgot the original Airport in your poll,it was the best with Dean Martin,Burt Lancaster and Helen Hayes.

Airport 75 was so corny, you can see how they got the inspiration for Flying High

Airport 77 is pretty good, quite often watch this one.

Airport 79-The Concorde-Ranks as one of the worst movies ever made.

As for the Other disaster movies

The Towering Inferno-by far the best disaster movie ever made
The Poseidon Adventure-Slow starting but very gripping once the ship turns upside down
Earthquake-Corny but i love watching it.Some very dodgy special effects,Ava Gardner is a scream.

I can remember watching this at the cinema when it came out. Was advertised in "sensoround" make you feel that you are actually in the middle of the quake ...or so they said, and as a kid you went there really excited about the upcoming special effects.
All they did was put the volume right up so loud that the theatre speakers rattled a most dissapointed kid here ...though I was happy when Ava Gardner got washed away in the storm drain !

                God, the memories.
Puss poor sound systems...yada yada yada.
We broke the boredom by taking penny bats (in matchboxes) & letting them go. Made great shadows on the screen.
If that didn't work we'd drop Jaffas (from the balcony seats) onto the head of the usher as he walked below.
                Ahhh the good ol days.

Some of my school mates, used to pick the jaffas up off the floor, blow the lint and dust off and eat them.

I wouldn't mind some of those old theatre sensoround speakers brought back at the SFS, esp postitioned around Bay32 ...at least we'd be able to hear the announcements .............. and it'd feel like an earthquake !

Sincere apologies Horry, I did indeed.

Yeah loved the Inferno. And Earthquake was another classic flick to watch even though today it's virtually unwatchable.

Geeses Hawkeye your bringing those memories back. I remember at the local theatre a 20cent bag of jaffas could feed a third world country.

                      Chook.

Yes i remember seeing it in sensurround also and all it did was give everyone a headache.A lot of the movie was shonky, i remember people burst out laughing when the cartoon blood splattered over the screen when the elevator plunged down the shaft and the scene when the lady had glass already sticking out of head before the glass actually hits her.
I remember winning a jackpot at trivia years ago,the question was What was Ava Gardners opening line in Earthquake, i was the only one who knew it "Goddammmmit" i burst out laughing everytime i watch it, i love the way she delivers that line.

The Towering Inferno and Earthquake were screening at around the same time in Sydney, both had at least a 12 month run in the city before they played at the suburban theatres. The Towering Inferno screened at The Plaza cinema in George St,it just looked magnificent on the big screen, the effects were so realistic,i remember getting upset when Jennifer Jones got flung out of the outside elevator and plunged to her death.
I remember lining up to see Earthquake at the Forum theatre in George St,you could feel the rumbles outside when the previous session was playing,it was exciting but once inside and the movie played i felt robbed,i still liked it but it was not a patch on Inferno.Victoria Principal's yellow t shirt was interesting though

I always thought Earthquake was a really involved episode of Emergency!
