Getting out the whipper snipper and secateurs is all part of the fun. It’s very satisfying to see everything neat and tidy again. But I have to say I cannot stand weeding! No matter what I do those weeds keep coming back especially with all the rain we’ve had the past year.

You're right about the price of food. At first it was just meat but now fruit and veg cost a fortune too. We have been sticking to a lot of basics lately.

Absolutely love going to the movies and out to lunch which we do on a weekly basis. Walking the dog Marley is pretty much a hobbie as well , twice daily . Almost retired and can't wait .
Love it. I forgot about the fur baby. Going walkies with him every day is also one of my hobbies. It seems we have a lot of similar interests 08.

It’s the same over here. Basics and learning how to get more out of regular cuts of meat are the go now.

Less red meats and more chicken as well.

The frustrating part about the so called ‘inflation’ is that I’m certain some things are just profiting from it.

I’m definitely using a lot more chicken than red meat at the moment.

It seems we do . Keep it simple . As we age we find our lives have more basic needs . Having sold on the south coast we are in a townhouse in Brisbane so not much gardening which we both miss greatly but going back to the shoalhaven next week to look some property to maybe find our forever home . Took 6 months leave without pay and undecided if we go back . Leaning to not . Spend about 22 hours a day together and absolutely loving it so future seems bright .
            Also what sort of dog

Good luck with the house hunting. We have a little mini foxie. He’s such a cheeky, funny boy. Really smart and very intuitive. He amuses me every day with his quirky ways and I couldn’t imagine life without him.

The fishing here is pretty good but it’s just a learning curve again as it’s fresh water, not salt and I’m trying to remember my fresh water knowledge from a few years ago. Every lake here can fish different and there are literally thousands of different bait and lure combinations so it takes ages to get it right.

Off to Canada next week to some familiar spots up there. It’s on!
I'm happy if i catch a feed of leather jackets, just dangling the hand line off the wharf with a bit of prawn or mussel for bait. Happy to catch a few bream too but more inclined to return them to the water these days, mind you if i'm away up the coast and catch a couple i'm happy to keep them for a feed from the cleaner waters.

The one type of fishing i would like to learn is fishing for black fish, such a real art to it fishing with floats trying to work out depth to set it and finding the weed and cabbage they like eating,
When i worked at Kensington years ago a customer used to bring me in black fish their father had caught because i used to keep corks from champagne bottles for them and he used to hand make his floats from them. Such a delicious fish to eat, i really miss having that fresh and regular supply.

That's the good thing about having a box freezer and working in the centre when i'm at, can just nick into the Coles or Woolworths when they have some decent mark downs and then straight into the freezer at home.

Even chicken isn’t cheap but it’s cheaper than red meat and you really can’t stuff it up no matter how you cook it.

Fantastic! Leatheries are a good eating fish and also super easy to clean and prepare.

I never say no to a few good bream but decent ones are few and far between these days. Flatties are the thing these days with a lot of people getting into the chase and challenge with plastics. There are some great Facebook pages with peoples stories and pics of their accomplishments.

I like the tests of the deep water. Offshore is more my thing but I like going deep and bottom bashing or drifting baits at different depths to see what gets interested.

To me, the best part is the sunrise trip out across the water. It’s just magic!

Agreed. Don’t mind buying meats with a day left on the expiry as I can freeze it and keep it for almost as long as I want.

Flatties are a great eating fish and i like catching them but i have hopeless knife skills when it comes to filleting so i cook them whole but they are a much better fish filleted to eat , Bream are just great steamed, baked or pan fried whole, prefer their flesh over snapper any day ( and i like snapper ). One nice by product of where i used to fish for leather jackets was catching goat fish, gut hooked one once a thought i would take it home for my mothers cat but decided to keep it, bloody delicious so would keep them when i caught them after that., rarely see them in the shops or markets but sometimes see the very similar barbounia but most often the size you see in the shops are so tiny.

Have only been outside fishing a few times and to be honest i'm happy when i get back closer to land, just have a thing about deep water, probably why i prefer estuary fishing from a wharf or shore line over all.

Always a bit skeptical about buying chicken products with such a short expiry date but haven't had a problem so far with them, have plenty of mince, beef and also pork, often use the pork mince in stir fries.

Getting my fishing gear ready for next week. It’s fun going through all my old fresh water gear.

Hope I can find somewhere to buy some live minnows when I get up there. The big bass love them.

Make sure you familiarise yourself with all the rules in Canada RT A lot might have changed with Trudeau wouldnt surprise me if anything you catch has to be thrown back in
