It was a strange day here, quite humid but the sky got a brooding look about late in the afternoon. Felt like a drink somewhere quite after a serious family meeting this afternoon so caught the bus from home down to Wolli Creek to go to the nearby rowers club on the Cooks River, while waiting for the bus the storms clouds were swirling, by the time the bus had got to near Wolli Creek it started raining for about 2 minutes then stopped, when we walked from Wolli Creek to cross the Princes Hwy a huge gust of wind came through and a tree on the other side of the road just starting dropping leaves everywhere, it looked a special effect, i have never seen anything like it, quite stunning, it only lasted about 30 secs. Once we had crossed the road walking to the club through the park the lightning bolts hitting the airport were spectacular, again only lasting a short time but amazing to see and then a couple more happened while having a margarita on the balcony of the club, just such an interesting weather pattern happening over about a half hour period. Later in the evening after making our way back to Newtown for dinner a thunderstorm rolled across, bit of thunder and lightning and a short period of heavy rain which cleared by the time it was to walk home. Lol, while i'm typing this the rain is just hitting the windows again.
Well that rolled over quickly despite brewing for hours this morning. Still looking dark out towards the airport but looking West from the lounge room there is plenty of blue sky and the sun is out now. Was 30c here at home at 9am this morning.
The plants on the balcony got a good watering with the rain. Sun was out briefly again but has disappeared now but looking ok to get outside for a while despite the ground being wet.
We’re supposed to be getting upwards of 170mm here in the next 24 hours. This may lead to road closures from flooding and road slips. If so we may not get out and miss our flight home on Saturday.
