The other times the snakes have been a lot smaller and further away from the main road area but they still startle you, actually one day one tourist was trying to poke one with a stick, i told him he was an idiot in no uncertain turns, it was only a small black snake but if he got bitten who would have known what would happen next
Black snakes are know for just going about their business even if you are there. I was biking through the bush once a few years ago and one came across the patch in front of me and I had no choice but to go straight over it!
Luckily I lifted my legs as it reared up in an instant and struck at me but getting the bike. Shyt myself a bit!

In Canberra it’s not the red bellies I’m worried about, it’s the brownies. They are generally quite placid until they feel threatened and if you get hit, it’s not going to be good.

Already done that and we top up the mulch every spring in the areas that need it.

Yes the brown snakes are the real worry, have come across one at La Perouse, it was my first encounter with a snake there, it was only a baby but it was across the path, the better half was stepping over before realising it and let out a very slow motion high pitched mouthful "SNAKE" so here we were one on each side of the path and the snake in between us, eventually it slithered off the path but then turned around and its head was sticking back over the path, i quickly grabbed my stuff and got past quickly and onwards to the beach. Had a another encounter with a brown on a head land at Port Macquarie, the better half felt something whip past and brush the legs and said was that what i thought it was and i said yes. I think the thing that really got me about the red belly at La Perouse was the size of it but also it was on a pathway where hundreds of people would walk along every day and was only a few metres off Anzac Parade.

                  • Crazy wild windy weather here today and a huge branch came down from a black gum in our front yard. Luckily it didn’t hit anything and amazingly it landed between two shrubs which had it hit either would have squashed them. We’re supposedly in for some rain tomorrow which we really need.

                    • Lots and lots of rain today and we’re going to need it. With it the temperature has become a lot cooler.

                        • It’s back to winter like conditions here today. Strong gusty wind with a cold bite to it. It’s time for my walk and I’m going to have to put a jacket on.

I haven’t done that YET. I may do later though.
