  • Spot on midnight i heard the rain come down heavy and then hitting the windows for about 5 mins then nothing. A few drops of rain when i went to work around 8.30 am and then by 9 am the sun was out and shining, it was only when coming home around 4 pm there was the dark rolling cloud coming from the south west and distant thunder sounding, just got inside the door and then suddenly the wind struck up and the rain was horizontal and plenty of thunder, perfect timing to get inside and watch the storm roll though.

      • Was on the south coast yesterday and today. The storm yesterday brought the highest rainfall in almost 50 years. It was madness and coupled with the unrelenting winds, made fishing almost impossible. Still sat through it, totally drenched and managed to bag 12 fish. Today was a dogs breakfast. All that rain washed years or shyt down the systems into the rivers and bays making it too murky to fish. Gorgeous day but un-fishable.

Glad you got some fish before the rain shut it all down. Were they all flatties you caught ?

          • Weather looked so iffy this morning but cleared late morning so went and had lunch and spent a few hours by the pool at the stadium, pure bliss.

Strangely enough, not a single flattie was landed this trip!
my mate did manage to pull to the edge of the dock what he thought was the flattie of a lifetime but as we got the net ready, it turned its head and spat out a bream that was the fish he actually had hooked!

same thing happened to me a few years back… pulled up a flattie that my guide said was over a meter but as it got to the boat, took one look at the net, shook his head and spat out the 30cm flattie I actually did have hooked!

I have a plan of attack next time I’m down at Narooma. I’m gonna trap some live poddies and put them out in the shallows of the points where the water swirls. Hopefully the big girls like what they see!

It is amazing what the big flatties will eat, even their own kind . Yes the live poddie mullets are the best baits for flathead by a mile.

                        • 28 c here at the moment just after 12.30 pm, enjoying the air conditioning before heading out to work at 2 pm. At least got the bathroom done and also the Christmas tree up instead of sitting around doing nothing this morning.

Suppose to get between 35 c and 38 c along the coast on Saturday and anything between 38 c to 42 c in the Western suburbs.

That is what I call stinking hot! Only around mid 30's predicted for Canberra this week so I suppose looking at that I shouldn't complain too much.
