We had a thunderstorm hit at 4am in the morning. Nothing like being woken up in the wee hours with lightning flashes in the dark and booming thunder.

I moved to the Adelaide Hills a couple of years ago. Best part of the weather is getting all four seasons in one year. Something you don't really get in Sydney.
South Australia is a lot drier. You can go weeks, even months, without rain in summer.
I have a big garden and veggie patch. It's taken a while to work out how to water during the hot,/dry months.
In summer it doesn't get dark until about 9pm too.Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

Wow that was a storm that just ripped through, thunder , lightning and torrential rain, have half a tree down in our drive way and very close to the electrical wires and the way the branches are across the gate we cannot get out, will have to have a closer survey in the morning when there is no lightning and rain. Relevant authorities have been alerted so we just have to wait and i'm certain there are many worse off than us at the moment, at least we still have electricity .This is the worst storm than i can remember since the great hail storm from years ago.
Anyone else who has the storm hit or whether its on its way, just stay safe.

Just got back from Brisbane. Summary:
- Golden weather up north. Paid for it if I began my morning runs too late (by late I mean after about 5:30am) but loved it.
- We went to Dreamworld for a day. Due to lightning they closed all the rides for 1/2 the day. It then fined up and all was good. I got onto the last ride for the Steel Taipan. Damn it's a great rollercoaster. FWIW on this same day, some assault relating to road rage happened outside Dreamworld and the guys ran into Dreamworld, so they closed off a section of the park while police investigated. Fortunately all we saw was a fenced off area.
- On the way back the plane had to land in Sydney as there was lightning in Canberra. After many hours of waiting, they announced that we're getting loaded onto a bus for Canberra. Currently on the said bus, going through thick rain.
- I guess it's fair to say that the weather's been a bit crazy. I hope it didn't damage our roof as we're in a position where we have a 1 degree flat roof that's 100% approved. However, over time it has become slightly less than 1 degree. As such, the insurance company are absolute b@stards whenever it gets broken by a freak storm (e.g. a couple of years back it snowed, farked the roof and they sent in some thugs to rough me up while claiming it was a non-compliant roof that had always been broken so there'd be no pay-out). It was a really painful process getting them to fix it...

It was just one of those things just sitting inside and you hear a very unusual loud noise, i thought it sounded like the downstairs awning had been blown off but when i looked out the front window i only saw a small branch hanging over the electrical wires and within 20 secs or so it had blown off it, i though maybe a bigger branch had hit the roof then blown onto the street, its only when we looked out the balcony window that we saw at least half of one of the big trees laying across the drive way, some of it hanging on wires but at least the wires its on is only the old Optus cables which aren't used anymore, however it is still very close to the main electrical line into the building.
