    1. A misunderstood or misinterpreted word or phrase resulting from a mishearing of the lyrics of a song.
RWBs choosing of the song Black Hole Sun in the music thread got me thinking. You see I used to think the song was called Black old sun.
We listen to so much music we're bound to get some things wrong.
    Anybody got any classics?

    I remember this song
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H5uWRjFsGc
    Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.

I thought the lyrics said "I get knocked down......like an elephant"

Once while sitting in the crewcab of a work truck down Illawarra way , this song came on the radio.
I said "what is it with this song, are they saying they cant be knocked down.....or are they saying elephants fall easily?"
When I explained my reasoning the only response I got was "Eddie, your're an idiot"

“Blinded by the light” other than that line, I have no farking idea what else is being sung in that whole song

catchy though, and I think I make up new lyrics every time I hear it.

When i was a kid we used to sing to the KISS song " I wanna rock'n'roll all night, and part of everyday" instead of party. Bet Paul and Gene dont even party for part of any day these days!

At school we used to sing a line from Piano Man by Billy Joel " Sing us a song you're the yellow man" -can't say who we used to sing it too- but it was the 80s so PC did not exist

Also used to sing " Like a virgin, touched for the 31st time"- can't say who we would sing that too-again it was the 80s!!!

This one i got no idea what Peter Gabriel starts off the iconic song Sledghammer with. I vaguely remember getting very smashed at Uni and we played the start of this song what seemed like 100 times trying to guess the opening words. Anyone want to guess? Whenever he did the song live he left out the opening lines altogether and started from "you could have a steam train....."

The first ones I think of are Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mine with 'who's gonna shave me'? instead of 'save me'.
Which brings me to Cheap Wine and a 3 day goat instead of growth.

I'm sure there's more which may or may not come to me eventually!

LOL so loudly my neighbours are worried...most of my favourites have already been mentioned...great stuff in this thread. The main ones for me have already been posted being KISS, Midnight Oil, anything by James Reyne of course, Tony Danza..I've actually got a stitch now from laughing so much as I type this..

The Whitlams - from Blow Up The Pokies - it sounds like Tim is singing "I wish I would shine you" - Even Amanda Keller asked him about this so it wasn't just me.... Speaking of Amanda, when James Reyne sang Wuthering Heights as part of the musical challenge on Triple M with Andrew Denton & Amanda, Andrew told James that he's diction was too clear and that he could actually understand him. I have all their CD's as Sony Music donated all the proceeds to the childrens' hospitals.

This is why I started a song lyrics thread . Before Google, we had album sleeves with lyrics.

                              Hey, hey, you there
Tell me how have you been?

You could have a steam train
If you'd just lay down your tracks
You could have an aeroplane flying
If you bring your blue sky back
All you do is call me
                              I'll be anything you need
