'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' would have been more appropriate Andy. Don't think I need to spell it out.

Sadly - yet another thread (and a personal one too) seems to have been derailed by our resident South Sydney so called school teacher.

"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

What do ya mean? Nothing's "personal" here. What are we woke all of a sudden? Even Jaxie's gone all touchy feely (not that I'd suggest hypocrisy on his part).
Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold - even Andy's given me up on the ONJ thread, thrown me to the wolves as it were, in order to save his own skin from the wrath of the bereaved. I'm still trying to get over that!

Now now, he does like Chuck Berry and he’s a good slice of good ol’ US of A. The Russians did produce some great classical composers but I’m not too sure about their popular music credibility. Anyway I would have thought Paddo may have been more progressive in his musical tastes. You would think he would be into 70s punk of the anti Thatcher - Tory style.

I always considered Punk a blight on the evolution of Rock'n'Roll. Media fuelled, it had limited appeal in its original form though the basic philosophy was sound - a rejection of the obscenities of over produced Glam and Art School influences both of which were big in Oz (and on this site) thanks to Countdown.

The Rock'n'Roll of the 50s, suppressed in the US because of its blackness, was pretty much a form of folk music. It was true with traceable roots to many forms and places - Appalachia, (The Everlys) Louisiana (Fats Domino), Mississippi (Howlin' Wolf, the early Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis), Texas (Buddy Holly) and the East Coast big band form (Bill Haley). And of course there was Chuck, a problematic human but a musical force - the alternative name for R'n'R according to John Lennon.

One good effect of Punk was that it revived interest in simpler forms like Rock-a-Billy and we saw some great exponents of that from Britain - Dave Edmunds and Shakin' Stevens.

Some excellent musical points there. I have to admit I have never really delved into the 50's that much, apart from Elvis. My musical collection pretty much begins in the early 60's. I do like Buddy Holly. Still, perhaps we should start a separate thread on the topic of 50's music as this is a tribute thread for Judith Durham.

I'm just not going to bother anymore Jack but thanks for your kindness and sensitivity this week. From now on, I'll share this stuff with you and my other offscreen friends in private in future.

Hope Paul Green's thread doesn't get derailed now either..

One more song from Judith called This Is My Song. Well lovely lady, this was your thread but the nasty men with dirty boots decided to trample all over your lovely carpet..

With respect dear lady (and others) it's not "derailing" the proper description would be "tangential" discussion after which tribute might flow again but you're all saying the same thing. To be blunt, it's pretty boring but then I suppose it explains, to some extent. the loyalty of the masses to media where endless ads are not just a feature but an attraction.
Poor old Andy raises the spectre of Karma re the possibility of Covid and the ONJ family's spruiking of anti vax, fair enough, but he takes flak as a result. There are too many here who rail against Cancel Culture while they are, themselves, avid practitioners.
This is an off football topic forum where anything goes within reason, I don't see any reminder that there are "tribute" threads on which a topic is sacrosanct. We should avoid group think in all of its forms. Don't much rate The Seekers? WTH! Think China is the bad guy? Why not open the mind to alternative views? Reading the room can have a very dull result.

Ah yes Kalinka a favourite in the USSR(CCCP) and I don't mind the Sacred War either a very stirring song during a very dark period

Aren't you just the one then?

Maybe extend that respect to the thread author then too. Twixt your political comments and happy clapping for extremist trolls.

I’m sorry? What have I done? I was one of the first people on this thread to tell Paddo to not come in here with negative comments about musical legends that have just passed away and instead try and say something nice. What political comments have I twisted? What have I done? Am I being attacked?

Can I please have an explanation Jack.
What political comments have I twisted? I told PC that while I respect everyone has their own musical tastes and opinions he should say something nice about a legend rather than criticising them. Check the post way up thread, I actually posted it before your complaints to him.
Salvo then made comments to me about PCs likely Russian tastes in music which I responded to. Sorry for responding. I was just replying to Salvo being polite and having a dig at PC. PC then apologised about his comments on ONJ I believe and later talked about his love of Chuck Berry. You told me to stop feeding the trolls at one point and I apologised by stating it’s just me and I don’t put people on ignore or refuse to talk to specific people just because they disagree with my opinion or whatever. I’m happy to talk to everyone on here. We all have our own unique personalities. I do not believe I was being disrespectful to RWB and if she thinks that I was she should say something to me.

I'm not going to sully this tribute thread further MR by continuing this discussion here... sorry.

Suffice to say that if a certain unrestrained contributor was not here, we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Please feel free to PM me, happy to explain further.
