[QUOTE=Paddo Colt 61;n952991][QUOTE=Jacks Fur Coat; An amazing voice from a legendary band. The music will live on.

Is there nothing we can agree on Jax? Sad as a death may be for family and friends, the Seekers were an ordinary folk/pop group that, by virtue of mere serendipity, happened to link with producer Tom Springfield who longed for a reprise of The Springfields and who provided most of the cloying stuff that always goes down well here and in the UK. To me they were like a kind of Sunday School outfit with Durham's delivery bland, expressionless and devoid of even the hint of sex appeal. Not in the same universe as Dusty's. It was the music of leafy suburbs and the well to do - Athol Guy predictably became a Lib MOP. The others were understandably pissed off when Judy turned off the money tap and took up her partner's obsession with Jazz despite having the least suited voice to Jazz imaginable.

The same goes for Darryl Cotton, Nesmith and Olivia, all derivative and MOR. I mourn Chuck Berry.

Jeez this is really an old bugger's thread. Imagine the grieving when Barry Manilow passes.

I respect your musical opinion Paddo, but you could at least find something nice to say when a well known Australian (or any nationality for that matter) musician passes on.

I would normally ignore the activist troll, but in deference to people who started the tribute threads and are hurting today, please give up.

We don't care who you do /don't like , nor need to hear about your political spins esp in these threads.

Trolls like this have no shame or moral compass, can't read the room.

        Just go.

I honestly think PC has as much right as you to express an opinion Yes it was very obviously a post that was not going to go down well with the masses or should I say majority on here and not one that I personally would post None thd less I’m someone who in times of darkness can still laugh and laugh I did at the nature of the post Im an honest person so will admit to that. In saying that I’ve expressed my sorrow of the death of Judith and of Olivia the latter my heart sunk for one particular poster on here

PC has mentioned before his dislike for the Seekers and that is his right to but plenty on here disagree with him on that and that is there right to also. The sad thing is that we have lost two of the most amazing musical talents in one week.

Also I know one Rooster fan who will be very upset when Barry Manilow passes away, Amanda Keller.

Of course you did King, it is/was nerd's music after all. I mean that in a good way. Thanks for the Flegg result en passant.

To others here I'll admit that Liv was always a good sort but a player all the same. Bruce Welch of "The Shadows" fame, to whom she got engaged when she first went to England, attempted suicide when she flicked him. Not well known enough? And what about the boyfriend who "disappeared" only to emerge years later - could he stand things no longer? And the fruit cake daughter? Well we all have baggage I guess.
How come I know all this?

Thank you Andrew, very thoughtful though I have been contributing to the Footy forum, mostly Souffs related stuff which has since sunk, undeservingly, without trace.

Never, maybe once or twice, watched "Cotter" though I may have mentioned that I was, back in the day, an educator. That promo shot could be me surrounded by the Bra Boyz at Maroubra Bay High whom I may have introduced to violence but failed to introduce to Marx. I used to put the stick around a fair bit back then, t'was the Paddo influence - never give a mug an even break. I also had a sort of bouffant hairdo which has sadly left the building and the hairless dome that replaced it is possibly the reason that I seem bitter at times. I was devastatingly handsome you see.
No there isn't a heart of gold and I will continue to call out bullshit whether it relates to Old Bugger's threads or to America good, China/Russia bad. It's the teacher in me.

Paddo's musical taste revolves around music from the Soviet Union times though - he has the Soviet National Anthem as a ringtone on his phone for instance - I bet he knows every single word in Das Capital as well- oh the evil US of A

Your musical knowledge is one would say rather limited and of course you have no idea about my music genre tastes

I think you make a lot of things up to suit your commo/ socialist wired mind - you have to realise the soviet union no longer exists it's kaput just like the so called workers paradise - yes working in gulags 18 hours a day was not a paradise at all.

How come all those commo and anti capitalist countries had those gulags/re-education/concentration camp places though- i don't recall capitalist system countries ever having such places

The boyfriend Patrick McDermott has not re-appeared though - no evidence has ever been provided that he is still alive either

To all her fans here, I sincerely apologise for the unkind things that I wrote about ONJ. I wasn't aware of the extent of the charity work that she did over 30 years. A big mouth is not always a good thing.

That's not true King, I love Chuck Berry's oeuvre.

                            Guantanimo?

Revolutions occured in Russia, China and Cuba which upset the paradigm of a thousand years - namely the redistribution of wealth from private hands and the tranfer power to the collective. As happened with Napoleon, the spreader of Liberalism, those who had held power for centuries, the Aristocracy, reacted violently and comprehensively and, for a time, they prevailed.

Reactionary forces, this time round the the Capitalist West (the USA/Britain) reacted similarly invading Russia in 1919 and taking sides in the Civil War that the old order had perpetrated. Anti Revolutionaries took their cause to the world and tore Russia apart. They remained after losing the civil war along with everyone else who had benefited under them resisting the new order and its grander vision at every opportunity just as they do now in Miami, Hong Kong and Taiwan. WW2 was arguably the work of the West sooling Germany onto the USSR (See the Historian AJP Taylor).

Now you're either gonna have a revolution or you aint. Something needs to be done about reactionary elements and their powerful foreign backers. Does a nation decide "Oh well, youse don't like it this way, let's go back to your way"? Anti revolutionaries aren't "us" the ordinary people, they're the power elites who control States.

Music like art is subjective and what is pleasing to one's ear might not be the same for others.
Time and place for everything Paddo but a thread dedicated to someone's passing is not it for political discussion.
