1. The widely accepted mainstream 'fact' is that China's an expansionary dictatorship. The CCP is an authoritarian regime that operates a single-party state that tightly controls what its citizens are allowed to say/read (including by blocking large parts of the internet and locking people up if they dare mention events such as the Tiananmen Square Massacre). Classic authoritarianism and its neighbours (e.g. Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, East Kyrgistan, Mongolia...etc) feel bullied by it as it's constantly making land grabs and/or maliciously reneging on historic agreements that enabled them to operate as independent countries (with their own elections, passports, currency...etc).
2. If you read what CCP propaganda, paid defectors (mostly kids with no clout in the game) or old f@rts who are bitter about the way their government careers in 'the west' have ended then they'll see China as Australia's best friend. They also see it as being a friendly ally who we should be deprioritising existing relationships with the USA, Europe, Japan, UK...etc in favour of. Supposedly all our current allies are controlled by Rupert Murdoch, act maliciously towards us and Julian Assange / Edward Snowden (aka two vocal Russian defectors) can prove they are our enemies while China/Russia are excellent allies that are looking to further Australia's best interests.
3. All of this has been covered in great detail. If you subscribe to the theories presented in point number 2 (and trust a bunch of defectors / bitter old political insiders) then John Menadue's blog has an abundance of anti-western conspiracy theories and reasons why you should love China/Russia instead of our existing allies. On the other hand if you think that being closer friends with the USA, Europe, Japan, UK and smaller Asian countries is more important than getting into bed with two authoritarian dictatorships (plus North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran...etc) then there's a wealth of analysis out there that sooooo edgy it'll land you in prison if shared within the said dictatorships. Personally I'm happy with the quality of such analysis and believe that with some basic intelligence you can avoid biased, agenda-driven bullshyte from all sides (whether it be Menadue or Murdoch) without much trouble.
4. Those who support China / Russia above Australia & its current group of allies have the option of defecting so that they can enjoy the abundance of social/political freedom as well as the fabulous standard of living that Russians / Chinese enjoy when compared with Australia (which our comrade believes is broken beyond repair, largely because Whitlam / Menadue were sacked). Oddly there's no takers, despite all the talk from various accounts.
