So presumably you'll be happy to take a nuke strike or two over "defending" what the world regards Taiwan as, a part of China?

As is HK. They're both part China. The PLA won the Civil War after being the only real resistance to the Japanese (Izzy's mates) and with US help the collaborators shot through to Taiwan which the US then annointed as The Republic of China - a dictatorship until recent years and still a poor example of Democracy if there is a good one that is.

Surprise, surprise! The UN Rights committee has rejected its own report on alleged Chinese persecution of its Uyghur minority. The vote was close but there were 11 abstentions which were presumably intended, looking at those involved, to save the USA from embarrassment. We can put most of those on the "No" side.

The interesting thing was the number of Islamic nations that voted against condemnation considering that the Uyghurs are Muslim. Seems to indicate a credibility gap as far as the US is concerned. It, the USA, wins sheeple public opinion via the propagandist MSM but doesn't do so well with the more well informed of the Empire not with those who have experience of US hegemony.

In such a case Izzy would have us compelled to accept the majority decision wouldn't he? He's all for majorities no matter how ignorant their deliberations. Bet his USA!..USA!...USA! gets the better of him. MR will be disappointed as well - another whom we are asked to believe in no friend of the US but who hates all its enemies.

Again I'm opposed to war... if a country's trying to conquer its neighbour in an attempt to 'reunite' what was supposedly theirs in the past, I'm not gonna sit by and just let it happen. Only a 'sheeple' would do that.

This is the China thread buddy. Get a grip.

But apart from that when Germany was united (in the early 90s was it?) Nato and the US promised not to move eastward. With the success of a US inspired coup the road right up to the Russian border was cleared and detachments of Right Wing paramilitary were unleashed on the Russian majority regions in the East - over 14000 had been killed from 2014 on. The UN recognised an agreement brokered by EU countries - The Minsk Agreement which was then reneged on by Ukraine no doubt with US guidance and Nazi aggression went on. Nato and the US have acted provocatively since the get go, The object is to weaken Russia as an influence in Europe - US spokesmen have said as much.

Not gonna sit by? What are you gonna do - volunteer? My guess is that you'll just keep going on my case, tellin' me that black is white.

Only a sheep would use the term sheeple.

My opinion - Hong Kong is China, Taiwan not so much. I lived in Taiwan in the mid 2000'a for a few years. At that time the country was about 50% pro China. I understand from a Taiwanese colleague that there is now a great deal of anti-China sentiment in Taiwan.

You know the CCP was destroying all of the classic Chinese art right? Thats why Taiwan has the world's greatest collection. Mao's Cultural Revolution!

Seeing the scenes in China with the anti lockdown protests I find myself wondering what do the regular contributors to these type of posts think about them and also what do others think of it

I know there were many here outspoken with their views about those protested in Australia and other Western Countries. Do these people feel the same about the Chinese. Are they covidiots or right wing extremists like people were labelled here . Looking forward to the responses.

Are you sure ? The recent election results would suggest the opposite

Yeah I'm pretty sure. Taiwanese genuinely fear being invaded by China.

That thought crossed my mind But that would mean these peoples votes were fear based and that they do not have the courage to stand up for their beliefs and as such nothing will ever change

It was a vote not to discuss/debate the report and not a rejection of the report by the way - You really need to state facts and cease using such events as some sort of gotcha moment for your historically inaccurate anti west and capitalism mindset and views

Result not to debate its own damning report shows many states are unwilling to take sides in power struggle between China and west

I'm not sure. Its complicated there as Taiwanese were from Mainland China prior to 1949. The believed they would return to China and take power.
