I was in the Southern Highlands for 10 days, off line and overseeing the build of my country retreat. Too exuberant by halves I was attempting to move a big glass door solo but tripped and fell backward holding the door all the way down and injuring my back in the process. Blood everywhere too - it was like a Bondi Rex Friday night out with the Colts back in the day.

Anyway, it was the Bowral hospital ER for me and then, anticipating that The King's wife might possibly be on ER duty I started to look forward to some expert Russian intervention but as things turned out I had to settle for some very good Pakistani sutchering. Blood everywhere as I said!

Imagine my disappointment when, back on the Net, I found that Salvo had pretty much taken over the thread with yet more revelations of the squalid lives of Russians. This time, following Izzy's lead, he produced eyewitness accounts by someones who knew someone's uncle or something. How to account for Vlad's 80% popularity is, unfortunately, the Blowfly in the ointment so you all need to discount most of that rambling.

My take on "Leviathan" is that the corruption that the film pointed out was not a lot different to here where someone like Our Glad supports the boyfriend with taxpayer money and ICACs are constantly exposing local government malfeasance. The point is that the director didn't hold back and, in so doing, disappointed some government officials. Doesn't that suggest media independence to anyone caring to think a little? That obviously excludes Heckle and Jeckle.

PS Am feeling much better though the Coccyx remains pretty sore, it's a sensitive area to come down on with the door weight adding to the impact. Please, as serious as the episode was, I don't want a flood of "Get Well" wishes nor offers of food delivered during recovery.

Pain is part of our human experience and should be a part of our training for what might happen. Imagine that you are Chinese or Cuban just waiting for that knock on the door at midnight (you know the one that King describes in his delusions about Communism). How long would the ordinary person, man or woman. last without having already prepared for pain in some way? I mean, surely the threshold would be ratcheted up - the voltage and that sorta stuff, the twist of the rack lever.

I've always wondered what info they'd hoped to extract from those innocents - What's the best hedge trimmer on the market? Is Mafs better than Survivor? Did you or did you not call your kid Maverick? Of course they could be foreign agents, Evangelicals, enemies of the people like corrupt businessmen? Just thinkin' about it is all.

* That's true Kingsley, they couldn't afford it but neither can the Aussie average person. You forgot to include them.

* During the Soviet period, and now, most people in the big Russian cities had a "dasha" - a modest get away place.

Menadue. com have spent most of the year publishing articles that would have you believe Australia and China are headed to some sort of military showdown.
