Brilliant Andy, but do you know what plagiarise means? The thread is Poetry appreciation, not whaddya think of my half witted doggerel? Poems are cited here, they don't originate. Some do but that calibre of havin' a lend can only ever be good if it's witty, which yours ain't.

Poor ol' Gut Feelin' has given himself a bad name dissing intellectualism and you're gonna do the same thing by being a goose.

And you're getting the wrong message Andy, I'm havin' a lend son, not sweating anything - pick it up and run with it - if you could be bothered that is.

Here's another from the Romanic school, a sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley which illustrates the Romantics' love of myth and legend. Remember that the Romantics cited Imagination as the dimension which was unacknowledged by science and which made humanity special. The poem also speaks to another Romantic theme, that of impermanence - nothing is forever, change is the only constant, I see the declining American Empire in it and the destruction that that is leading us into

        Ozymandias

        BY PERCY BYSSHE SHELLEY

I met a traveller from an antique land,

Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,

Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,

        The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal, these words appear:

        My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
I see the declining Putin administration myself. Deserted by all his lackeys and servants, his ginormous ego leading to his destruction and demise.

Also for those who have watched Breaking Bad, the greatest TV series ever made IMHO, the penultimate episode is called Ozymandias and includes many subtle references to this poem. It is the best
episode in the series, again IMHO, and focuses on the ultimate demise of Walter White.

Still believing that Empire propaganda MR? The Ukraine is America's war, the joint is swarming with US "advisers" and the ante keeps on rising.

George Orwell went to the Spanish Civil War and fought with an Anarchist Brigade. Before any proposed attack the men would vote and those who voted for the attack took part while those who were against stayed out of it, In the same way, it would be good if you and yours could follow your war criminal nation and I and mine could look on. There'll be less left than there was of Ozymandias.

Just being contrary to your observation Paddo. It’s funny how you always manage to find an anti USA, anti West angle in your poem suggestions.

We need some Shakespeare. This is a sonnet and I remember that a sonnet has 14 lines and the last two lines are called a couplet. Hope I pass the test.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

LOl I’m not interested in your marks. Nor whether you think it is classy Whilst self praise is no praise That is a classic limerick
in every sense. I must admit that one just rolled off the tongue like flesh from a heretic.

Now for anyone wondering what significance the last sentence has. There was a time where heretics were burnt at the stake. Obviously great minds, intellectual geniuses and linguists such as PC would have immediately realised this without needing my explanation Not all here share the same intellect as him snd I did not want this to be lost on them
