  • And MR, you did the best you could under difficult circumstances and for that I thank you. I'm always suspicious when that old Philistine Jax dips an oar.

      Meanwhile, here is a timely one. Our spineless government has upped the support for the Taiwan war mongering with an agreement for a B-52 squadron in Darwin (4 Corners tonight).

      This is an anti war piece by Wilfred Owen one of the great WW1 poets killed just weeks prior to the Armistice. I talks to wars realities. The Latin translates as "How sweet it is to die for one's country" - an age old war mongers' trope.

      Dulce et Decorum Est

      Wilfred Owen - 1893-1918
      Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
      Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
      Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
      And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
      Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
      But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
      Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
      Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

      Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling,
      Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
      But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
      And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime...
      Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
      As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

      In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
      He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

      If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
      Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
      And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
      His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
      If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
      Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
      Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
      Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
      My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
      To children ardent for some desperate glory,
      The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
      Pro patria mori.
      OHHHH PC such praise truly humbles me. Be assured I have other gems in my pocket I am though a firm believer in timing and will await for a time I think appropriate too publish these works on here.

      In regards to the Australia US Taiwan Chinese situation it is uncanny how you have mentioned this to me, whilst only this morning Mrs Walker was quite outraged telling me about this after reading it on the link I have provided beneath. I will try to watch Four Corners tonight but may miss it as I am out officiating sport this evening and will probably grab a bite to eat after finishing It would though be wonderful if you could provide a link to a re run of this

        • Please don't keep trying 08. The sad thing is that it falls to me to break the fact that you are totally lacking in poetic talent. Not in the same literary street as Mr. Walker whose seemingly simple efforts mask a deep sensitivity. I bet there's a million Nantucket rhymes.

          And Mr. Walker, John Menadue further relays that a retired American Admiral is Assistant secretary of Defence in Canberra. The "news" was reported by the Washington Post but our MSM have said nothing. Morrison and Dutton handed over to the US and that resounding disappointment, Albo's ALP, is letting it run. We're fcuked and sleepwalking to disaster, joined at the hip to the most violent nation on Earth.

          4 Corners is repeated on Tuesday nights after 10pm and there's always ABC i view.

          • There once was a Rooster nick named Fairy
            He wasn't allowed in the clubs front door because of his long hairy
            His skills on field
            Would often end in a big points yield
            And if he didn't break his leg just before, the score in the 1975 Grand Final would have been scary.

              Haha....I tell you what Horrie I needed that (getting slapped around at work a bit atm)

              It was a bloody goodun don't get me wrong . But the long meter breakout in the last line caused me to spit some of me Johnny black n coke. Very good and funny at the same time.

              Im trying to educate a couple of the self appointed high priests in this thread in meter and rhyming skills...they are trying at least and have the odd moment.

              Keep em comin HH!

                          Thanks PC will try to watch it tonight. Having read the article I get where you are coming from We are asking for trouble but we have been the USAs lapdog or even 52nd state since the end of WW2. In the interests of national security I get the alliance. But Fcuk me we go beyond where we need to go with this Perhsps we are in to deep and have left ourselves with no choice. I’d say most here would not have read the article I’ve posted let alone watch Four Corners.

                            He thinks he is smart

                              • "The interests of national security"?? How is that served when we are a part of the US military machine - integrated with the most aggressive and violent nation on the planet? This is the Libs legacy. Over many years they've successfully played on the fear factor - Yellow Perils and the most recent, the women and children coming home from the Middle East.

                                Of course the sheeple wouldn't read your link, they don't read much of anything - they haven't got time what with watchin' reality TV, betting with mates, quaffing craft beer and, despite all, loving America. Some democracy we live in, our fates at the mercy of meatheads.

                                MR, your effort is a commendable one. Well above the average presented here with regard to meter and rhyme.
