  • Willis Meehan

Had high hopes and wraps on Willis but he just couldn't get it all together to forge a career as a footy player in the NRL - Wasted his talent one can truly say.

Willis Meehan is one.... Anthony Watts & John Hopoate are another couple that spring to mind.

    No sympathy from me.

Sure, you get your ****s ups who just have emotional issues who typically deserve a chance or two to change.

But occasionally you get these young dumb sociopaths that come along in league...they've got bits missing from their brain that most people have.

They fall in with bikie gangs and such & inevitably everything they do turns to shit and they turn into one man wrecking balls, causing damage to everyone around them.

To be attracted to those clubs in the first place, you are by definition highly attracted to getting power to use to meet your own selfish ends.

Sick of people making excuses for those who make the choice to bring harm and chaos to others lives.

Willis use to work for me when he was about 16. He laboured in my warehouse. He was the most polite, respectful, appreciate and hardworking bloke. He was talented enough to play NRL at 18. He could have been part of the 300 club.

May said it in his recent poddie... there's old friends he doesn't deal with because they've made such choices. Smart guy as I reckon you need to detect when people are beyond help & move on.

Nobody likes to dump on their mates but in high school I remember a good friend called me up to ask if I wanted to rob a liquor store. I thought he was taking the piss so jokingly said yes. 30 Minutes later (aged ~15 with no license) he rocked up with a stolen van and was like 'let's goooo!!!' I was like 'WTF, you're psycho bruh!!!'

For the next ~3 months he was selling smokes and liquor out of his school locker to 13 y/o's and shit. It was pretty ****ed. Finally he got caught as he robbed the same shop ~3-4 times. The guy had other issues (also started coming in with bandaged arms and stuff having punched out windows in his leafy, Lindfield home & assaulted his mum). Wish I coulda helped him as a friend but I just had to disassociate as I was too young and had my own stuff in life, so wasn't the one to help him. Ironically his parents branded me as a bad influence as they saw where we lived (Paddington) as being the ghettos, where all the druggies and crims lived.

I remember asking him during a preseason camp in the Gong what his goals were for the year. He said "Stay out of trouble".
