  • Sins of the Father

I don't think this article has been discussed elsewhere on the chookpen, it was written by Mark Whittaker, who also wrote "Sins of the Brother" the book about Ivan Milat, he also wrote the "Granny Killer" about all the Mosman Granny murders, I guess he specialises in monsters! It featured in last week's smh Good Weekend

    http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/sins...611-204wg.html

Pretty revealing stuff & certainly changed my view of the Brett Stewart case, I'd be interested to hear what you all think after reading it.

I did read that the other day and must admit, I initally lept to conclusions before it all came to light. But given that Stewart's innocence and this susequent article, I can see why Brett was so insensed with the conclusion jumping Gallop.

I think Brett Stewart is a victim in more ways than one. Had this incident came at a time when there was bugger all in the headlines about bad behaviour by NRL players he may have gotten the benefit of the doubt until proven innocent. And the accuser's fathers escapades would have been revealed, but again bad timing. Not to mention the tabloids loved it and blew it up at every opportunity.

If I ever met the man I will apologise.

    Chook.

Yep I too read that the other day.

Shame it won't get to alot of the people who initially had him locked up for 20yrs.

There are some sick carnts out there, always looking for an angle.

      The FlogPen .

      You know it makes sense.

Yes, and those bulldogs didn't pack rape a woman in a pool in Coff's Harbour. Next people will try to claim that Matthew Johns didn't lead a gang bang in New Zealand.

While I'm glad he's gone, David Gallop is a lot of things but first and foremost, he's a lawyer. He wouldn't commit a spurious and quite simply libellous action if there was any doubt as to what happened.

It's like my old mucker Craig Thomson. Just because one Kiwi whore said she didn't sleep with him doesn't mean that he didn't steal 500k of my and other peoples money. Not to mention the 350k that was paid to him by members of the NSW ALP finance committee.

Money changes everything. You can't be a little bit corrupt, it's like saying someone is a little bit pregnant.

I pose the question, how much would it take to make someone to shut up about something that wasn't a rape?

        20,000?
        50,000?
        100,000?
        150,000?

Chump change to a club whose marquee player is in more shit than Paul Hayward.

I dunno about your stance on this John, he rang his girlfriend on his way home asking if she wanted him to bring home some take away, he stayed & co-operated with police who said he didn't seem inebriated, the Telucrap had to pay him an undisclosed amount as a settlement for the lies they wrote, the father is an obvious crook & gold digger & most of all B.Stewart was acquitted, women in the jury were crying because of what he had to endure, I've done a full 360 on this one, having been one of those who thought he was lower than his nickname would indicate & I now think you have this one wrong John, just the way I see it though.

I understand B.A. but you didn't hear what I heard. Doesn't matter though.

You mean like "Brett should have behaved more like an old tiger than a snake?"

Seems it contradicts alot of what I have heard from decent sources, and doesn't make either true.
Regardless of which version is appropriate he is tainted.

Given Gallop's track record the quick reaction from Gallop and the NRL seems to me that they got information different to the article. Gallop would not have reacted this way without pretty damning information

Exactly, he knows the minutiae of the law.

Question from the floor - why hasn't Brett Stewart sued the newspapers or David Gallop for libel/slander?

Even that thief Craig Thomson sued Fairfax for slander - and he was guilty as sin.

I believe he did sue or threaten to take action against the Telucrap, a settlement was made out of court, no doubt with a non-disclosure clause, no idea how much it was for? I don't believe Gallop ever libelled or slandered Stewart or accused him of anything, I seem to remember that he was stood down from being the face of the NRL & from playing, officially at least, for bringing the game into disrepute by drinking or being drunk at the season opener function.

His character was defamed. People believe he did it.

If he didn't then he should sue.
