Willie Mason and Paul Vautin are great examples of that , and there is be a mind boggling list of others, isn't there?

Gees again seems nrl clubs paying way over for potential and kids while they only offer 30 + guys half the money
I feel for Galvin as it would be his agent driving this! Now the players are off him and don’t want to play for him. Pressure now on Luai who has been solid but hasn’t put the $1m performance in yet for the tigers
Just as the poor old tigers look like they have turned a corner and competitive again something always appears - makes you value supporting the chooks as the tigers would be hard to follow

Who was that former Queensland origin player that we pulled from obscurity in the Ricky Stuart era who hadn't played first grade for about 5 years and then got injured and retired.
A few have been very good to great: Brett Mullins killed it in 2002, Luke O'Donnell started off very poor for the first half 2013 but finished strong, Brett Morris was sensational I'd argue pound for pound he was the best of all of them, Josh Morris pretty good but came a year too late sadly, Cooper Cronk was good but lucky to walked in to a team primed to win he wouldn't have done much in 2017, Jason Ryles was good in 2010 but stunk in 2011. Speaking of 2017 we had Michael Gordon at the end of his career from memory he went alright with little expectations on him.

DTele today:
"On Tuesday, having been demoted to NSW Cup, he attempted to explain his decision, stating that he made the call early to give the Tigers time to prepare for his departure.
He said it was important he developed his game at another club.
His father James backed his son and said he would do his best for the Tigers while he remained at the club."

Well there you go.

It's pretty funny hearing him boast about his ability on his poddie though. When I think Willie Mason I think of a big dummy who at one point in his career offered a lot of grunt but went soft for us. In his mind he's a tall, athletic, Manu-like player with silky ball skills, who coulda played FB or halves if he wanted to. IDK if he was ever that but he seems to think he was?
---
Side note since DCE's on our radar, Wikipedia has the following previous goss. Sounds like DCE might be a good cultural fit if Mase holds such opinions (though he's changed his angle since teaming up with Scope).
Love how he says stuff though. Particularly the last part where he's like 'who cares? WTF did we need to have a big meeting about that shyte?!?'
---
In June 2018, Mason claimed that when he was at Manly that nobody wanted to play alongside teammate DCE and that he was the reason there was such a divide at the club. Mason went on to say "I was there in 2015, I've never seen, never been involved in a team, that I could just see such a divide in a club, It was because of Cherry-Evans. All this shit that's been happening around him, like, something's wrong, "He then signed with the Gold Coast Titans for like 10 years", Mason said. "And then there was a big f..... meeting, Cherry-Evans has got something to say. "I just signed a deal with the Titans boys, blah blah blah". "I'm like, who gives a f..., you don't hold a meeting about that. No one cared"
Mason's comments came in the wake of former Manly player Anthony Watmough commenting on a Hello Sport Podcast calling Cherry-Evans a "****wit" and that he was the reason other players needed to depart the club.

The issue between Galvin and the tigers has more to do with the issues between Isaac moses and Benji Marshall. Moses is using the Galvin situation to project his own opinion about Marshall and as a result has put Galvin in a precarious position with his teammates. This situation could have been easily avoided

Mason was one of the worst things ever to happen to the roosters and what he brought to the club had the potential to burn it down. I have zero respect for him and anything he says.

Not 'only', but 'first'.
If playing Galvin in firsts were best for thing for me...like Trent and co did with Suaalii...then that's what I'd be doing...and telling any dissenting players to worry about their own game and leave team selections and coaching to me.
If Sam Walker hadn't gotten injured we might’ve won the comp in 2024.
Galvin seems to be more interested in developing his game than the money.
Seems to me that something could've happened there 12 months ago that turned him off there.Last edited by bondi.boy; 04-16-2025, 11:14 AM.

His manager is Isaac Moses...a manager our Chairman now refuses to deal with.
Moses manages two players in our juniors, Metcalfe and someone else. Newspaper article said we might lose them.
Moses took Mitchell Moses, Aaron Woods and Tedesco out of the Tigers in 2017.Last edited by bondi.boy; 04-16-2025, 11:36 AM.
