  • What do you want to see from our new TV broadcast deal?

I'm not talking money I'm talking benefits as a viewer. I love watching live Rugby League, don't really care who is playing, just love watching the game played live. And that got me thinking of what is it I want for my viewing pleasure.

At the moment we get 3 main "views" of the game from both 9 and Fox:
1 - The Field view where you can see all the field and every player from both sides.
2 - The Middle view where you see both lines of attack and defence.
3 - The Close up view where all you see is the ruck.
4 - You then have the corners and sometimes we get a reverse camera angle from the other side of the stadium.

More than anything I would like to have a choice as to which view I want to view the game on and an individual player cam for every player. For instance, if I wanted to following the game of a particular player from another club, I would choose the field view and watch his every move. If I wanted to see how our defensive line moves I could choose the middle view for all game. Or if we were getting hammered in the ruck I could watch the game again just on that view. And I can change views to suit myself during the game.

I would also like to see split screen technology at work along with individual player cams. That way you could watch the game as a whole and an individual players positional play at the same time.

I would also like to see the ARLC negotiate for the rights to set up a comprehensive archive of all Rugby League broadcast footage so that at any time I could access the 1974 GF or the 2000 Prelim final against the Naughts or the 35 - 0 drubbing of the dogs in 2003. God knows watching some good Roosters footy from the past is preferable to watching the shit currently dished up.

A dedicated Rugby League channel is something I also want to see. Our version of Eddie McQuire - Matty Johns would be a permanent fixture I know, but we'd have the ability to mute him.

What else could be we ask for as Footy viewing fans?

    Chook.

intelligent commentary with no references to gambling and no screaming i told you so and less jargon and gee ups during a broadcast.
the footy show has impacted on commentary to the point it has had its use by date much like the callers on channel 9.

Watch an AFL game on 7. Incredible coverage. From 1 hour pregame to 1 hour post game. Take it off 9 till they care more about football than exfootball players and their egos.

Whatever happens with the broadcasting rights, there should be a preview programme and a review programme. Like AFL has. Not a variety show, a serious forum discussion format would be nice.

I'd like a fixture designated from round 1 to 26 when every team is playing. i.e. none of this 5 weeks in advance crap to see when who is playing who.
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

I remeber not long ago you used to have these types of options with Foxtel. Split screens, being able to view different camera angles, even player cams. You could actually switch of the commetary with just the crowd noise in the back ground, so what your suggesting is not only possible, its been done previously. Dont know why they did away with this.

A variety of teams shown! I'm sick of the same old St George, Knights, Broncos etc games. Show Melbourne. Show Manly. Show Canberra, Penrith, the Warriors and us for Christ's sake.

Channel 7's AFL coverage is some of the most diabolic I have ever seen.

Hey Chook, with all the cameras you'll need for individual player cam, is there any room left in the budget to bring back the post game dressing room cam, some of the funniest moments of the old Rex Mossop games were seeing Moose awarding the MoM award to some player basically standing there starkers!

I reckon some interviews from the ice baths would be pretty good too. Also the way Ch9 go straight to the News on the Sunday game, without any post game discussion is disgraceful, especially after sitting through all the ad breaks during the game itself, really disgraceful.

Also Fox need to bring back the Coach's post game interview in full on Monday nights, I thought it was riveting seeing them searching for the right words etc, trying to avoid getting fined, Ch9 should introduce it too, FFS put the extended viewing on Gem if they need to keep their poxy News (does anyone even get their news from the 6pm editions anymore anyway??)!!
