The best thing about this TV deal is that it is only the second piece of important league news in the last 15 years along with Gallops sacking that was a surprise to everyone including journalists right up to the day it happened.

Which doesn't change the fact that league fans will be fkd by 9 for another five years

Well scheduling 20 weeks in advance is better than 6 weeks I suppose. Pity we have to suffer Ch 9 for another 5 years though.

But at least now the 9 games will be shown nationally 'live', either on 9 or Gem. That's better coverage than what's happened prevoiusly. And apparently they will allow us to watch it in HD from 2014, how generous of them. What's wrong with doing that in 2013??

Best outcome in this is the removal of the first and last refusal on future rights to Ch 9 and Fox. That may be our only hope of getting the game out of 9's clutches.

Another 5 years of not watching much of Friday night and Sunday footy and checking the results on Fox instead. When you decide that repeats of Better Homes and Gardens is preferable to watching a game of footy you know how bad 9's coverage is.

More than happy with what Fox provides in their league coverage. More than worth the $80 odd bucks a month I pay for the privilege of being able to watch their games live in HD without ads. And their coverage of the other sports aint half bad either.

        It's a pathetic joke.

This is what Packer and Murdoch inflicted on league. Penury.

I only ever watch that on replay anyway.

I'd have to be on my death bed to miss that one live.

The traffic is shit and Merge supporters are some of the biggest ****wits on the planet, but I never miss that game.

Totally agree Greeds. The ANZAC Day game is my fave of the year as far as atmosphere goes for being at the game. Even though it normally ends in heartbreak for us Chookie fans.

It is a shame that Channel 9 now have the rights to telecast it though, they'll find a way to fark it up no doubt. Thankfully Fox will edit out the ads for their replays.

Personally I hope the radio rights get a bigger coverage. In Syd atm we get ABC and that crappy 2GB. I can bear the ABC but refuse to listen to those dopey fools talking about nothing.

Ch 9, I knew they would get it but one of the other bidders was offering 4 live games per week. I mean not everyone has pay TV so this was a chance to spread the game.

One live game a week on free to air and Laurie Daley as NSW coach. What a dreadful day for league fans.

The fans never get a look in.

FTA TV is key to growing the game. These idiots don't get this.

There are 3 clubs in qld and and between them they get one FTA game a week.

How could they lock in this 1950's style arrangement for 5 years.

Surely Andrew Demetriou congratulating them is all they need to know about how sh1t it is

Spot in Big Morls. 1 live game per week is crap. At least Fri night & Sunday arvo should be live. Cant help thinking the game is run by hillbillies atm. And you're right we gifted the AFL.

That's what fans are forgetting. The last deal was $550 million over 6 years, that has more than doubled now. With News owning half the game and the puppet at the helm the game was getting screwed, not anymore.

I was hoping 9 would be gone and there would more games on free to air but you can't get everything. Also as part of the deal News have lost the first and last option on all future rights. Those carnts hold on the game is all but gone.

The coverage could be better but I'm not complaining the game is in a much better shape than 18 months ago.
