Nine and Fox Sports to retain NRL rights

Unfortunately it's short term pain for long term gain. The best thing to come out of this deal is the fact that no longer is the game held to ransom by Nine and Fox by them having first and last bids. Personally I think that's the real benefit the ARL Commission delivered under this deal.
Next time round all the bidders are on equal footing. And hopefully 9 are outbid fair and square.
So much for Gyngell being a true league fan. This bloke doesn't give a shyte about the game other than the money and ratings it brings to his TV network. The way that he duds the fans with the delayed coverage on FTA is disgraceful. Yes he's paying big money for the rights so but so do the blokes at 7 for the AFL and they at least give a damn about the AFL and have it live on one of their channels. Gyngell and the boffins at 9 don't care enough about the league supporters to do that.
NCSupporting the RW&B, through good times and bad times.

FTA TV is key to growing the game. These idiots don't get this.
There are 3 clubs in qld and and between them they get one FTA game a week.
How could they lock in this 1950's style arrangement for 5 years.
Surely Andrew Demetriou congratulating them is all they need to know about how sh1t it is

I was hoping 9 would be gone and there would more games on free to air but you can't get everything. Also as part of the deal News have lost the first and last option on all future rights. Those carnts hold on the game is all but gone.
The coverage could be better but I'm not complaining the game is in a much better shape than 18 months ago.

keeping in mind also that previously everyone was ruing over the fact that the NRL had no money at all, "rugby league is dying blah blah", "clubs have no cash blah blah", "the players get paid nothing who wants to play for the NRL blah blah". Club grants are going to considerably increase and the salary cap is projected to increase to at least $5million next year with projections of up to $6.2million as well. Of course, there are going to be steady increases and this could rise to as high as anything in 4-5 years time. The code is in a good position now irregardless of how TV coverage is virtually the same. Criticize it all you want, but cash is so so important right now

I saw the announcement and a reporter asked whether that was going to happen and Gyngell said it would not happen because 2 games simulcast live would split the ratings up and that would be no good for advertisers.

Advertise it as the fans choice, 2 live Friday night games running back to back, still cater for QLD, on the dedicated RL channel.
Wouldn't that win back dissatisfied fans and satisfy their advertising needs???
Or would that ruin their ratings in the lead up programs???
Same with Sunday's replay. Why can't we schedule a live sunday game at 4 pm???
BTW does anyone know if they delay gAyFL games???
The FlogPen .
You know it makes sense.

If you made it 6.30 and 8.30, the first time would be better than the 6pm time, but would you start getting into the argument that the second game is on to late ?
I like your idea about consecutive live games on GEM and 9, but always going to find it difficult to get a consensus on the ideal times to play them.
