  • Nine and Fox Sports to retain NRL rights

EXCLUSIVE: Rival networks Ten and Seven have been told this morning that Nine and Fox Sports have retained the NRL broadcasting rights for the next five years.
The NRL will hold a press conference this morning to announce the deal worth $1 billion.

Under the new agreement, Nine will retain all representative games and three free-to-air matches.

Foxsports will continue with five games, including Monday Night Football.

Ten and Seven were buoyant about their chances of pinching the rights but the ARL Commission has decided to continue using the incumbent broadcasters.

A Fox Sports source this morning confirmed they would remain as joint official broadcaster of the NRL.

With Lachlan Murdoch being chairman of ten and with his history with Rugby League would you want ten to get it, i think not.

I dont believe it until I see it myself.

I do not want Channel 9 having the rights.

can't believe the league will settle letting 9 show 2 games a week on delay, hopefully there is a similar agreement as the AFL deal which allows fox to show every game live.

Exactly. I know money is important but to watch games delayed by a couple of hours is ridiculous.

if this is true those sprouting a return of Gould are well off the mark.

Im still skeptical. There is more to this than meets the eye.

All indicators up to this point have suggested that 9 were losing it and 10 were going to at least get some scraps. 9 would have to pay overs to beat out 10 unless there is some other deal/arrangement going on.

Always been a fan of Gould, except for his commentary. I hope this is not true. If it is true hopefully we get a deal like the AFL with all games live and quality program's like AFL 360 and On The Couch. Swans have always been my second team, but I find myself watching more and more AFL over games and shows on the NRL.

Dubai, I agree the quality of the AFL programs are much better than the crap the NRL dishes up, surely the NRL wouldn't be dumb enough to let 9 get away with showing a second friday night game that finishes near on midnight and a sunday afternoon game that is ruined by adds.

That's got to be the Asian conglomerate putting money into Nine. I thought they were flat broke.
