Well doubt they'd go with those times because the 6.00pm would be a clash with their main news bulletin on Ch9 and we all know they would never move the 6 o'clock news.
If you made it 6.30 and 8.30, the first time would be better than the 6pm time, but would you start getting into the argument that the second game is on to late ?

I like your idea about consecutive live games on GEM and 9, but always going to find it difficult to get a consensus on the ideal times to play them.

I actually meant playing them back to back on GEM only mate, making that the dedicated RL channel.

Starting at 6 would never be on though I guess, no one would watch their news programs.

6.30 they could do now on 9 but I believe they love their ACA program???

Who am I kidding they won't change their timeslots, they make heaps from their RL coverage as it is.

That's my only disappointment with this deal, I stupidly hoped as a game we would dictate who played where and when for this next deal. After all we have the product that everyone wants, the massive TV ratings every year prove that fact.

All I see is same old. The extra cash is great though.

I guess getting rid of that clause that allows the current TV rights holders last rights is the best move we have made this time around. And very probably would've been the stumbling block for us being more assertive as a game over what we can control in negotiations.

I saw the announcement and a reporter asked whether that was going to happen and Gyngell said it would not happen because 2 games simulcast live would split the ratings up and that would be no good for advertisers.

Rcptn, what will happen is that GEM will televise at least one game live on a Friday night in all States where 9 does not show it on its main channel. Can't remember whether it's actually both games and which game it will be, but at at least every State will have access to NRL even if it is only via digital channels. But of course GEM will not televise games in States where 9 does the live coverage (eg NSW, Qld and NT).

I saw David Gyngell today at the Vaucluse shops as I made a day trip home to Sydney to see my new apartment. I was so tempted to yell out "Go you Roosters but then I remembered I'm supposed to be a lady, especially in Vaucluse. I'm still not getting Foxtel. I'm happy with my T-box at $11 a month giving me a dedicated 24 NRL channel and all the Freddy I can watch on NRL Deluxe.
