I read where Cochrane's 15 year tenure as V8 Supercars CEO is coming to an end and it got me thinking if he'd be a candidate for the vacant ARLC CEO job?

He's done a great job with the V8's over his time promoting that sport internationally and domestically and I think he'd might be able to bring that expertise to the NRL table?

He'd have no prior affilliation with any club so he'd be intependent. He can handle the media and he's proven he can negotiate contracts for international exposure. And from all reports he's a hard arse when it comes to dealing with problems and issues as I've heard he's had numerous blows ups with team bosses over rule changes etc.

Could be good in the role?

Most definitely "yes".
The V8's/Touring Cars were dying a slow ugly death before he invested in the current format.
It has gone from a small local sport to international (and growing) spectacle.

Give him a shot at it.

Richard Freeman dropped this bloke's name and Ray Warren said the NRL were talking to him.

I dont disagree he certainly has all that you have suggested but I just feel it is a bit left field & to my knowledge the game has never been administered by someone not affliated with the game in someway.

I don't disagree, I just think sports administration is very similar regardless of the sport.

Raise the profile, attract fans and sponors, marketing, media = sports administration, and it's pretty much the same thing irrespective of the actual sport involved imo.

David Moffett the 1st News stooge wasn't involved with RL before he was gifted a profile in sports admin in this country.

Gallop was worse, he was a SL News flunky lawyer. A good bloke from all reports, he was just owned by Ruprect and compliant in anally bending our great game for a single entities profit margin.

Neither were RL men.

I'd take a true independent who has proven his worth in sports admin elsewhere.

Maaaaaaaaaate I'd come to Charos with you if you invited Gallop himself, their pizzas, after an Easts win and 50 beers back at the club, rock.

But maybe I was a little harsh on Gallop, after all I used his gold passes for games for 5-6 years, thanks David.

As you said his hands were tied unfortunately. I'm glad they punted him, cos of his affiliation with News. But I did feel sorry for the bloke cos I believe he did his best thru a tough period of the game in trying circumstances. To fully judge him fairly it would've been just to see him operate without News Ltds involvement above him.

I'd get that clown who runs Cloey RLFC to run the game. I hear he is a good egg and will work for pizza, as long as it's made at Charos.
