I just gave them to this bloke I met there on the day who followed the Roosters, he told me he lived in Riverwood & that he worked along Oxford St where he was known as the Snorkler but his real name was Victor.

If I ever see the Snorkler at the footy again I will get his number for you so you can contact him about the blow up dolls.

My family loved it too. I remember going with my Mum to Parramatta Stadium to watch. It was a great spectacle and a wonderful way to get excited about the new season starting. We all must be a bunch of simpletons then who are also easily pleased.. Not sure what others were expecting from the day?

I think the 7 a side concept should just be played as touch footy. From memory the 7's was played on a full field, a full field is to big for 7 a side, the whole concept of defence is abolished so it just becomes a try fest for fast no name wingers who dont make it in the 13 a side tackle format.
I would rather be easily pleased by a day of show caseing skill, speed and agility, than easily amused by gay jokes and blow up doll banter between grown men.

Not being sarcastic mate, I believe we could easily make it a family gala style day, a massive event for the game to launch it's new season.

Run properly I believe it would be a winner. As you alluded to nothing good has come of the recent attempts at a season launch.

            It's a good idea IMO.

The biggest changes I would like too see, surround the SOO fixtures, as league fans, we dont need an hour of inane interviews, and old highlights, followed by second rate entertainment, leading up to the game, we would much rather the league starting the under 20's SOO game in time to televise it, but still have time for the normal commercial breaks, so the sponsors get their moneys worth, but we also get to see the next generation of SOO players, too wet the appetite, leading up to the main game. Then have a halfhour break, for the team starting sides to be announced, and various experts opinions on the game. A win, win all round for the supporters, and the sponsors.

                    +1

The woeful "entertainment" has been my biggest gripe at SOO time. Advertised TV time start is always a "suck you in" to watch all the lead up crap. I want to watch footy, not half baked glitzy styled rubbish.

What timeslot would you have in mind then? Every year it seems SOO kickoff gets later and later in the evening and most people have to get up and go to work the next day and many do not want to travel back from Homebush at all hours of the night at the coldest time of the year. I'd like to see the under 20's as well played as a curtain raiser. I like your idea but not for a week night.

i reckon the nrl should introduce its own version of the super league's challenge cup.
call it the nrl cup, whatever.
a competition run that includes rugby league teams in the australia-new zealand-papua new guinea area. im not exactly sure about club depth and what not, so bear with me.
second tier clubs from the bundy red cup (bankstown, sydney bulls) and the queensland equivalent of the bundy red cup play off in round 1
first tier clubs from the bundy red cup (cabramatta, mounties) and the queensland equivalent play the winners of round 1 in round 2.
second tier clubs from the nsw cup and qld cup (wentworthville, burleigh) play the winners of round 2 in round 3.
first tier clubs from the nsw cup and qld cup (newtown, redcliffe) play the winners of round 3 in round 4.
nrl clubs play the winners of round 4 and against each other in round 5.
the winning clubs from round 5 play each other in round 6.
                        quarter finals.
                        semi finals.
                        grand final.
of course, this schedule was a quick one and there are obviously faults.
start the comp between rounds 2 and 3, and have a game every 2 weeks, on a wednesday. with the nrl cup grand final a few weeks before the finals start.

                        just my ideas anyway

I think the NRL are onto something with the Thursday night footy. I don't know wether it should extend past round four, ratings and crowds will tell I guess. It will be a novelty while the season is fresh but anything past round 4 I think may be pushing it.

                              Origin

I love mid week origin. It has to stay. The clubs are really the only ones who know how much of a toll it takes on them. As fans, yes some jump up and down about we didn't have this player, that player etc but with the byes etc it all evens out along the way. My way of looking at it is that NO team has ever had their Grand Final chances blown by 'origin time'. I think to Thurston doing his leg and Cowboys falling away from there, but could happen to any club and they were far from premiership that year....

As mentioned previously the telecast is F**CKED! But 9 must get bucket loads from its broadcast sponsorship, because the 3 origin games are always up there in tv audiences come the end of year. I may be wrong here but didn't origin 1, 2 and 3 rate in top five tv audiences for last few years?
