i mentioned this in another thread, but i thought it was worth of attention elsewhere.
i propose that the nrl starts their own version of the esl's 'challenge cup'
rugby league teams in the australia-new zealand area send their teams into one massive tournament
i mentioned that teams from the nrl, nsw cup, qld cup, bundy cup etc would be involved. here is my proposed draw for the tournament: (results are simmulated )

Round 1:
Cabramatta vs Bankstown
Mounties vs Sydney Bulls
The Entrance vs Kingsgrove
Wentworthville vs Windsor
Bilola Panthers vs Yeppoon Seagulls

Like the idea mate, but the biggest problem you'd have is with the distances teams would need to travel.

It works in the UK because everything can be done by coach travel - something not possible in Austaliaia. If say, Bondi United drew Cairns away, you'd have 25 people having to fly. The travel fees would cripple most small clubs.

true. i guess you could take that in mind by having as many nsw teams play each other and same thing for qld teams.
another alternative is to have the arl pay for flights...
