  • NSW to host SOO twice next year

I don't know if this has been posted somewhere else or if it is old news but NSW are to host SOO two times next year.

Still don't know when the NRL fixture for the season is going to be released, supposedly this week but who knows?

yeah I just saw this on the news, I thought it was QLD's turn for 2 games as we gave one of ours to Melb last year??! Maybe Grant isn't as big a QLD fan as been suggested previously?

Cry me a bleeding river, Wal.

Maroons Origin legend Wally Lewis said the Queensland Government should have fought harder to keep two Origin home games in 2013.

The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) announced two home games for Sydney in 2013 as part of a five-year Origin schedule in Sydney on Tuesday.

The original scheduling for Brisbane's Lang Park to have two games in 2013 was made before the new independent commission came into power at the start of the season.

It follows the 2012 Melbourne fixture being one of two New South Wales home games this year.

Under the new five-year schedule Queensland will host two games in 2014 and 2017.

The Blues also host two games in 2016 while the rival states host one each in 2015 with one game that year set aside for a neutral venue, probably Melbourne.

Queensland Sports Minister Steve Dickson says the state's debt has cost it the 2013 hosting rights to Origin matches.

He says the State Government could not afford a bidding war with New South Wales.

Lewis argues the Queensland Government is underestimating the importance and value of the Origin games to Queenslanders.

"Look anybody that doesn't fight hard hard to maintain a bit of loyalty and support for Queensland, I don't believe they're real Queenslanders," Lewis said.

"People that don't believe these games aren't the number one earner for Queensland need to go back to primary school."

Dickson said it would be financially irresponsible for the Government to write any more large cheques with an existing debt of $65 billion.

"If it's about cheque books at the end of the day, maybe New South Wales may have a bigger chequebook than us," he said.

"We just can't afford to go blowing big bundles of money at this point in time, on Origin or anything else."

New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell said the new five-year deal is a fairer arrangement for both states with Victoria being the biggest loser.

"We haven't spent a lot of money to get these games," O'Farrell said at a Sydney press conference.

"Each of these games will bring to the city (Sydney) 9-10 million dollars into the economy."

New Blues coach Laurie Daley said the homes games will be an advantage in 2013 but will count for nothing if the side doesn't prepare well.

The Blues have been installed as favourite by bookies to break its seven-year losing streak to the Maroons in 2013.

This is correct. Every three years a team had to give up their home game to Melbourne.

So it went something like this (as an example) -

        NSW, QLD, NSW
        QLD, NSW, QLD
        NSW, QLD, VIC
        QLD, NSW, QLD
        NSW, QLD, NSW
        QLD, NSW, VIC

But I suppose it's not good for the game if QLD win 8 series in a row.

there is a definate pattern and nsw in 2013 are out of sync.

Another thing i have noticed is the nsw team performs better when there are 3 or 4 roosters in the team they havent won jack in 8 years and pearcy is the only origin player. Look at the years nsw won and there was brad, fletch, fitzy, wingy, crossy. Now withOUT roosters in the team for 8 years they are crap. But how do we contribute to origin if we mainly have kiwis playing for us...hhhhmmmm

Origin is a joke now with players being told they can pledge allegiance to a certain state (usually QLD)..

We should annex the whole farking state and sell it to Clive Palmer.

                Chook.

Even for Lewis that is moronic.

                  Number one earner?

Perhaps on a one-night-only basis, but that is still a mind-bogglingly retarded comment.

Yeah screw QLD but who cares about SOO compared to Easts? Biggest difference between most QLDers and us is that we don't really care whereas they live for it.
