He is a very, very smart choice.
In an interview with The Australian in February, Smith said Lloyds International had a strong future in Australia despite posting a $1.2 billion loss for 2011.

The Australian reported that documents lodged with the Australian Securities & Investments Commission indicated Lloyds International made an operating profit of $403 million in 2011, but had to write off $1.6bn in commercial property loans.

In 2010 the bank made a loss of $1.6bn and wrote off $2.3bn in loans.
Hey Pump is your job safe, them's some losses/write offs, sure GFC and all that, but if he can get a bank to lose $2.8 billion over two years imagine what he'll be able to do with the ARL (or is it NRL?)!!

Yeah Its sweet mate. Lloyds International also own Capital Finance - who I work for - who are a major player in the car finance game (up there with Esanda, St George etc).

When the GFC hit there was no Lloyds International. Capital Finance was owned by Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS). HBOS collapsed in the UK and the British Govt asked Lloyds to bail them out. Given HBOS had Australian representation (Capital Finance & Bankwest), Lloyds had to form an entity out here to run the Aussie business - hence Lloyds International.

Given the magnitude of the nightmare he inherited from the previous owners, only writing off $2.3B in 2010 & $1.6B in 2011 was a great effort.
Loved by few, hated by many, respected by all.

Mate as the others have said, if you recommend him, then that's good enough for me, those sorts of figures just always blow my mind!

Evil Rupert's puppets are already attacking this appointment. In today's paper, Kent and Rothfield are really putting the boot in.

This means he MUST be a good choice.

Also, I wonder whether he has had an interest in the Roosters?

''I am like most fans - I watch a game of footy on the TV; I will watch the Roosters or I will watch State of Origin or I watched the recent international match [between Australia and New Zealand],'' he said.

Aint in the truth. The more those tards rail against this appointment the better I feel about it.

                Chook.

One of the reasons Tony The Tool went off the rails?

That wins him brownie points with me.

Any enemy of News fiLTh is a friend of mine.

I bet they are shitty they didn't get the name leaked to them months in advance, like they got everything when News owned the game.

This Independent commission is something I doubted. I'm glad they are proving me wrong, making tough decisions not reactive ones, that don't get leaked to News fiLTh rags.

                    The FlogPen .

                    You know it makes sense.

David Smith has had 6 years in the British army counter-terroism unit. This will prepare him for dealing with those gronks, one would hope.

Sour grapes from Kent....News lackey. How about his reference to Uncle Nick. I wonder if there's any truth or if he's being a smartass prick?

NEW chief executive. Problems solved. Or so we thought.
Instead, concerns for the NRL's future and whether the ARL Commission is the wonder salve we all believed it would be only grow deeper after the arrival of new NRL boss David Smith yesterday. It came with all the oomph of a teenage pillow fight.

It is still being investigated that immediately after being confirmed for the job the first phone call he made was to his wife and the first one he received was from Nick Politis, but welcome to rugby league, anyway, Dave.

Well, we know how these corrupt News Ltd scoundrels "investigate" phone calls, don't we?

                            **** Paul Kent.

I remember my old man drilling that little chode at Woy Woy oval one day.

Ask your vertically challenged mate about that one tony the tool...

He was just as big of a cocky ****wit back then too.

One of my nephews has worked there as well up until recently. He's just taken an internship with Westpac but Lloyds told him to come back anytime. He has spoken highly of David as well.
