Watching the Roosters vs Warriors game last night the commentators mentioned there were 2 video referees, they seemed to be indepedent of eachother. This made no sense to me, one of the video refs is the "senior" one so therefore if there is a disagreement, then the "senior" video ref's decision stands and they go with his call. So what is the point of the "junior" video ref if he essentially has no power? Is it just a scapegoat if they make the wrong decision to say that two people made the awful decision? Or are they trying to ease "junior" referees into video reffing and giving them a buffer with the "senior" one there protecting them from public backlash for making a wrong decision?
I dont know, it just seemed like a waste of time, why dont we just have 50 video referees and take a poll every time we need them for a decision...
