Its not so much about this government or the next. All 3 vices should be treated the same, and if they have a product to sell, and people CHOOSE to buy that product, they can advertise to who they want, when they want.
You cant complain about these 3 industries advertising in our sport, then complain that the players are not paid well enough, clubs can't pay for high performance coaches, and the extras that come with the dough.
Not political, more free trade.

Waterhouse off comments team after Nine, NRL crisis meetings
March 28, 2013
Heath Aston, Nick Ralston
Tom Waterhouse has been stripped of his commentary role as Channel Nine and the NRL seek to counter a growing backlash against the infiltration of gambling into live sport and its effects on children.
Executives from both organisations have conceded the line between bookmaker and commentator had been ''blurred'' as a result of Waterhouse's big money sponsorship of Channel Nine.
The deal bought him the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with commentators such as Phil Gould and Peter Sterling, but on Wednesday the joint parliamentary committee on gambling reform was told he had been stripped of his Channel Nine microphone.
He will no longer be seen in the same frame as other commentators and will be restricted to talking about odds rather than giving his assessment of play.
But Fairfax Media has learned Waterhouse has no intention of giving away his role as a sports pundit altogether. He is, indeed, looking to grow his presence on television and other media.
He is trying to recruit a ''high impact editorial manager'' who will be charged with ''leveraging'' more media opportunities.
An ad for the $90,000-a-year job makes clear that Waterhouse does not wish to be restricted to bookmaking in building his business.
''One of those pillars of growth is that we offer insight into sport, rather than simply offering odds,'' the ad states.
Waterhouse, who has declined an invitation to front the committee but is likely to be called to a special hearing within weeks, has refused to comment as a social media campaign against him grows.
It is understood the NRL identified the growing backlash and called crisis meetings with Nine's management to modify the broadcast. An NRL source told Fairfax: ''[Nine] would have to be in the curled up in the foetal position in the corner not to understand the public feeling against this.''
Appearing at Wednesday's hearing, NRL general manager for strategic projects Shane Mattiske said changes had been made.
''I think it's plain that in the first round of the competition, the line was a bit blurred,'' he told the hearing in Sydney.
''What you'll see in the most recent round, and moving forward, is a clear separation when someone is talking about sports odds and when the commentary team is talking about the match itself.''
Nine has introduced a graphic informing that Waterhouse is a ''sports betting operator, not a Channel Nine personality''.
It would not comment on whether his curtailed role would require a contract renegotiation. Director of commercial and regulatory affairs Scott Briggs said a reported $15 million figure was incorrect.
He said 50,000 children tuned into Friday night games but they were not a ''specific target group''.

Advertising isn't targeting me or you or Chook we obviously think for ourselves.
It's targeting the next generation. Those that aren't as strong willed.
I'm all for less Govt involvement in our lives. I too teach my kids right from wrong.
But look at the gambling and grog ads. Look at how they are slick and have catchy tunes and beautiful people "winning" all the time.
The reality of both industries is very much different to what we are hit with in ads.
Look at what the abuse factor is in both industries. Look at the toll our hospitals and police are hit with daily from both industries. Us taxpayers are paying for this.
The same me you and Chook.
Not every kid has the same advantages as ours, parents who will teach them right from wrong. But we all pay somewhere down the line.
I don't see anyone trying to stop gambling as such here. We all have our own minds to make up. But when you can't sit down to watch the footy with your kids without being hammered with advertising for gambling, well that just isn't right, no matter if you like the punt or not.
We all know ciggies are wrong. People still choose to smoke. But advertising has been banned for close to 20 years on them. And it hasn't stopped smokers being informed.
Is there any difference with gambling??? The social effects??? The monetary effects??? On all our tax $$$$???
If you can show me how the gambling fraternity will lose out without advertising associated with RL, especially mid-game, well I will apologize.
It hasn't happened with ciggie or alcohol companies. It wont happen with gambling agencies.
And maybe a few less kids will be exposed too early to advertising that is done to teach their impressionable minds to associate RL with gambling.
Its not taking away our liberties or free choice. It's not imposing something on minds that don't yet have the ability to comprehend such complexities.
As I said there's a reason advertising companies target their audience the way they do. Profit. And future profit is money in the bank baby.
Next your probably gonna try and stop sex-education in primary schools because they're too young to learn about sexual organs in year 3 onwards to year 9.
