Speaking of which, gambling in some cases is the least of our concerns.

Yesterday while out walking the dog through the local park I discovered two teenage girls tying twine between trees across a bike path at about chest height. Can you believe that! I tore the twine down and then confronted them and got abused for "picking on girls". I told them picking on retarded girls don't count and they should both do the world a favour and go home and kill themselves. Farking wastes of DNA!

Anyway back on topic, gambling is bad mmmkay.

    Chook.

Lol, kids these days, how dumb are they, at least we were smart and used fishing line at twilight, much harder to notice.

Back on topic, I don't have a problem with gambling as such, even though I'm not really into it, it's just while I'm trying to watch footy I don't want to see that carnts face telling me odds or evens or whatever the fark he comes out with.

And I don't want to explain to my kids what that smarmy looking individual has to do with RL.

Or those pretty wankers at the pub always "winning" and dancing in slow mo to the beat.

I'd rather watch tampon ads. At least they are kinda useful.

Well we used dental floss, cos it's better for the environment, and there was always left overs due to Souffs fans and their hygiene probs.

                Maccas pickles are the go.

Do kids still like to chuck em out of moving vehicles and gamble on how many hits one can have???

Advertising isn't targeting me or you or Chook we obviously think for ourselves.

It's targeting the next generation. Those that aren't as strong willed.

I'm all for less Govt involvement in our lives. I too teach my kids right from wrong.

But look at the gambling and grog ads. Look at how they are slick and have catchy tunes and beautiful people "winning" all the time.

The reality of both industries is very much different to what we are hit with in ads.

Look at what the abuse factor is in both industries. Look at the toll our hospitals and police are hit with daily from both industries. Us taxpayers are paying for this.

The same me you and Chook.

Not every kid has the same advantages as ours, parents who will teach them right from wrong. But we all pay somewhere down the line.

I don't see anyone trying to stop gambling as such here. We all have our own minds to make up. But when you can't sit down to watch the footy with your kids without being hammered with advertising for gambling, well that just isn't right, no matter if you like the punt or not.

We all know ciggies are wrong. People still choose to smoke. But advertising has been banned for close to 20 years on them. And it hasn't stopped smokers being informed.

Is there any difference with gambling??? The social effects??? The monetary effects??? On all our tax $$$$???

If you can show me how the gambling fraternity will lose out without advertising associated with RL, especially mid-game, well I will apologize.

It hasn't happened with ciggie or alcohol companies. It wont happen with gambling agencies.

And maybe a few less kids will be exposed too early to advertising that is done to teach their impressionable minds to associate RL with gambling.

Its not taking away our liberties or free choice. It's not imposing something on minds that don't yet have the ability to comprehend such complexities.

As I said there's a reason advertising companies target their audience the way they do. Profit. And future profit is money in the bank baby.

I am not one for long drawn our comments.

Now you should start your lobby for not junk food ads between 3 & 5pm. Again what are Maccas thinking??

I would be pissed if my advertising company didn't target my target market.

I am all for no ads during the game, but the punt goes hand in hand with these sports for many. I don't bet on the footy, well atleast not on the roosters games, does my head in, but don't have a problem with them showing the odds.

Now all we need is to get Chook out of his cushy government job, and get in the real world, where big & small business can advertise to who they want, without the farking government deciding what we can and can't do.

Mate I am not into politics or that sorta shit but I detect an undertone from your posts that this is all about politics for you???

For me it's about advertising during the footy, specifically gambling ads disguised as commentary.

Which I don't agree is a good thing.

I have nothing against gambling just believe it's advertising should be treated like smoking or alcohol advertising.

All three vices treated the same way when it comes to advertising.

Simple. And not too drawn out for your good self.

And I like your ideas on junk food advertising, maybe you should run for parliament.

Thanks for keeping it simple for me mate.

Its not so much about this government or the next. All 3 vices should be treated the same, and if they have a product to sell, and people CHOOSE to buy that product, they can advertise to who they want, when they want.

You cant complain about these 3 industries advertising in our sport, then complain that the players are not paid well enough, clubs can't pay for high performance coaches, and the extras that come with the dough.

                      Not political, more free trade.

                          But that's just it.
The playing field is not level with these 3.
The tax rates are uneven....ciggies have a cpi index increase every 6mths....alcohol is at the mercy of budget short governments. All 3 have different laws that govern their uses, sales yada yada yada.
All three industries affect society in some manner or form.....none of them positive imo.
If you are going to regulate one industry that affects society to it's detriment you should do it for the lot.
Free trade works well on paper......implementation of that is the rocky road.

Tom is suing Peter Fitzsimons for slander because of comments made in his SMH column regarding this very issue. I was called up to jury duty back in 2006 for a very similar case but was able to be excused because the 'celebrity' writer was a client of the company I worked for. It will be interesting to see what happens. Peter said the SMH will be paying his legal fees.
