It's basically the Dally M, but voted on fans instead of by journos. Every match members of NRL.com can award 3,2,1 for each match of the round, the scores are then averaged.

He won by 9 points, I can't remember anyone winning by such a big margin

In other words, its a popularity award, much like the Dally M's, except voted by fans who bother to vote

I'm glad it means so much to you because I can't remember who won it last year let alone the past few years

Its like the encouragement award given to a player in u6's who was not the best player that year but deserved a token award
