Its like the encouragement award given to a player in u6's who was not the best player that year but deserved a token award
I'm not going to go into the merits of any of the awards, but Soward as well as Kimmorely have been the most consistent halves in the comp this year. Soward may have got a medal as an encouragement award, our boys probably got a McDonalds voucher for buy one get one free.

I actually agree that Soward and Kimmorley were the most consistent halves. How do you then rationalise Thurston getting Dally M halfback of the year?

I think the awards and the voting system lends itself to favouritism

It's simple, Thurston plays in a shit team, Kimmorely and Soward play in good ones. Cowboys win, he gets 3 points. Saints or Dogs win and there is probably 5-10 blokes who could score points.

Just like with Hayne, whilst he's had a quality season, he has also profited from his side being a one man show (Mortimer and Moi Moi excluded).

The whole thing is a popularity contest, it doesn't really reward consistency. I place more interest in the team of the year rather than the Dally M gong, but even that this year showed what a farce it can be.

I saw them giving him a McDonalds voucher. All makes sense now....

Whilst the Dally M points are awarded by rugby league commentators, each with their own personal bias and agendas, I can't really give too much credibility to the awards themselves.

Yes, and he was also halfback of the year that year.
