  • MMM quiet on Lui

I think if Lui has been cleared to play in the NRL, then Ginnane should pull his head in & move on! Lui has undergone counselling, suspension & the public shaming that goes hand in hand with this type of crime being exposed in the media etc. He was also placed on a two-year good behaviour bond and fined $2000. To me it also seems to be quite a hypocritical stance by Ginnane, I mean Lui isn't the first player to have been convicted of this sort of thing & this is the first player Ginnane has taken this position towards. Not that I'm condoning what Lui did, it is one of the lowest acts a man could ever do, but if he has done everything he can do & the NRL have recognised this, then IMO it is a completely arrogant, grandstanding act by Dan Ginnane.

As an aside to this, I wonder how Lui is still alive, with Sam Backo being the victim's father it's bloody lucky for Lui that he's quick or maybe it's that Sam is too slow to catch him!? Also what with Lui being the father of Backo's grandson, I wonder if he still has access to his son or contact with the mother, Taleah Backo anymore? If anyone has heard the status of their relationship, I would be interested to know, because if the Backo's have found it within themselves to forgive Lui, then Dan Ginnane has no right to be carrying this on at all. Please discuss.

MMM's ratings have been abysmal so maybe they are trying to drum up some listeners that would be interested to see if he can get through a whole game without mentioned Lui's name.
I read the article and as much as I agree with the sentiment surrounding Lui, I don't think he will achieve anything by not calling his name.

Do you mean that you agree that he should be further punished & castigated?

Well... He is a wife basher.

Look, it's a low act. If he has honestly turned a corner, sorted things out with his wife and is on the road to aggravation recovery... then further punishment is not necessary.

Everyone does stupid/wrong things - some of which deserve punishment with longevity, others don't.

I don't believe the punishment fit the crime. However, he has served his time. MMM are grandstanding in order for ratings. I do think he is a disgusting foul piece of trash for doing what he did and should've been punished harder. Should he still be punished and castigated? Well no, not according to the law but if I were related to the victim there would be other ways of making sure he was not forgotten or forgiven.

The lady in question is Sam's niece, not daughter. Robert had allegedly attacked on her on 2 separate occasions, the 2nd after he was allowed back, so he didn't learn his lesson the first time around. I think this is what is incensing people the most..it wasn't an isolated incident. Repeat offenders are harder to forgive, especially when it involves expectant mothers.

Thanks RWB for correcting my inaccuracies & very glad to get the fairer sex's point of view in such a sensitive matter. I had forgotten that this was his second time before the courts on the same offence, although the first case was dismissed, which I can only surmise was because Taleah Rae didn't want to proceed (please correct me if this wasn't the case). She took him back, fell pregnant & he re-offended after a binge drinking mad Monday session, he was then convicted & placed on a two-year good behaviour bond and fined $2000, which does seem to be a fairly lenient sentence, but I can only repeat what I said earlier, without knowing all the details re. his contrition; the victim's wishes; how he performed in regard to his counselling & all the other relevant info, in the eyes of the NRL he has done enough for them to allow him to be involved in the game again, so I just reckon Ginnane should just get on with it & stop grandstanding!

Isn't Matty Johns part of the Triple MMM team? Obviously organising a gang bang is not something Ben Ginnane finds insulting and downgrading to women.

You make a valid point, one I never thought of as I don't listen to the radio anymore, except specifically to listen to one of our matches. I stopped listening to the radio, except during our games, after the Nate Myles incident..

While I don't like or support lui in any way, this boy Ginnane must be a wonderful pillar of society himself to sit in such lofty judgment.

The problem here, like 99% of crimes these days, is the $2000 and good behaviour bond. CONSEQUENCES!!
