    Sandor Earl going to French Rugby

    What happened there, I thought he was the golden haired boy (sometimes literally) at the Raiders?!

    The Canberra Raiders' bromance immortalised in ink is over with "Dorguson" set to split when Sandor Earl makes a cross-code switch to French rugby union at the end of the year.

    The Raiders winger has reportedly signed a lucrative deal with French club Pau to leave the NRL this year.

    Earl tweeted a link to a story on starspoon.com early on Friday morning.

    It means his blossoming on-field combination and friendship with Blake Ferguson is set to end less than two years after the pair teamed up for the Green Machine.

    Ferguson is preparing to make his State of Origin debut for NSW on Wednesday night.

    The duo formed a scintillating partnership on the field for the Raiders last season to help launch a late season revival and charge into the NRL finals.

    They became best friends away from rugby league. They went on dinner dates, their teammates suspected "flirting" and shared game-day superstitions.

    They then coined the term "Dorguson" and got tattoos of their supername.

    Ferguson's career has rocketed this season after early alcohol related indiscretions, including the rooftop debacle with sacked Raider Josh Dugan.

    Earl has been finding his best form, but he was dropped to reserve grade last weekend and missed the Raiders' clash with Manly.

    Earl's management contacted the ACT Brumbies earlier this year to gauge their interest in recruiting the NRL winger.

    But Brumbies coach Jake White declined the approach.

    Now the 23-year-old is understood to have signed a deal worth up to $220,000 and is set to join Pau at the end of Canberra's NRL campaign.

    Pau is a second division team in French rugby. Former Brumby Afusipa Taumoepeau is on their roster.

    Earl joined the Raiders last season on a mid-year switch from the Penrith Panthers after he struggled to break into the first-grade side.

    He started his career at the Sydney Roosters.

    His former in Canberra was good enough to earn him a one-year contract extension, but the financial lure of French rugby will see him leave the capital after just one and a half seasons.

    Tattoo removal is surely going to take off sometime soon.....

    Good luck to him. Let him try his luck with the leather patches. It probably won't pay off in the long run, he's a solid leaguie for mine, and that's assuming he can terrain form.

    Not many out there that can pull off an SBW but then again it is European rugby.

          Accusations tonight that Earl has been named as privately taking peptides. Did he leave he NRL because of the implication he was on the peptides?
          I hope he is cleared or has his chance to clear his name ASAP because you would not want this hanging over your head.

            Canberra winger Sandor Earl is the subject of claims he used peptides to aid his recovery from shoulder problems while he was at Penrith in 2011.
            Channel Nine made the allegations on Thursday night, naming Earl, who recently signed to play rugby union in France with Pau, as using peptides at a private clinic in Cabramatta without the knowledge of Penrith officials at the time.
            A source close to Earl confirmed on Thursday night that, having become frustrated with the medical systems in place at Penrith, he was recommended to a specialist in musculoskeletal rehabilitation in an effort to get him back on the field.
            An NRL spokesman would not be drawn on the allegations, maintaining the administration would let the ongoing investigation by ASADA run its course.

            ''The answer is the ASADA investigation is for ASADA, and we're not going to speculate on the investigation or any information contained in the investigation,'' the spokesman said. ''It's got a course to run, and that's what we'll do.''
            Panthers executive general manager of rugby league Phil Gould added: ''We have absolutely no knowledge of these allegations so we can't make a comment.''
            Earl is due to return to the Canberra side for Saturday's match - against Penrith - after the withdrawal due to injury of winger Edrick Lee.
            Before the allegations were aired, Earl spoke to Fairfax Media about his recall, saying: ''I've definitely got a point to prove. I've played them [Penrith] twice now and it's one-all, I'm looking for a square-up, that's for sure and keep our record going at home. I haven't played for about three weeks and feel really fresh. I guess that [Lee's injury] is the nature of the beast, that's football. I've had my own little struggles with injury [at Penrith] and that opened the door for other guys to take their chance … It's come 360 again.''
            Attempts to contact Earl after the allegations were aired were unsuccessful.
            A Raiders spokesman said the club was unaware of the allegations in the report but declined to comment.
            Fairfax Media reported in March that controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank had arranged a secret try-out for Earl with Essendon when he was working for the AFL club last year.
            Earl admitted he knew Dank but was emphatic the sports scientist had not administered any treatment to him. ''No, no, no,'' Earl said at the time. ''I know him, but not, like, properly … he didn't have a proper role [at Penrith] like everyone else.''
            Earl's Canberra teammate Joel Thompson came out in support of the winger on Twitter on Thursday night.
            ''People are so quickly to judge before anything is proven.. They need to remember innocent until proved guilty #alwaysstandbymymates,'' he tweeted.
