NRL player James Tamou will not contest a drink-driving charge after he was allegedly caught almost four times over the legal limit, according to the North Queensland Cowboys.

The prop was pulled over in the Townsville suburb of North Ward about 3.30am on Monday, police said.

Police have confirmed a 24-year-old Kirwan man was charged after allegedly recording an alcohol concentration of 0.197.

He has been charged with unlicensed driving and driving under the influence of alcohol and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on July 2.

Tamou last week played in NSW’s State of Origin side, which beat Queensland 14-6.

Cowboys chief executive Peter Jourdain said Tamou admitted to the club that he had several drinks earlier in the night and he would not contest the charge.

“The Cowboys are extremely disappointed, as is James, in these events,” Mr Jourdain said in a statement.

“James is taking responsibility for his actions and is very remorseful that he has put himself in this position.

“This is his first offence. He knows it is a serious one and that he will have to pay a penalty.”

and he has been banned and will miss origin 2.

what a hypocrytical move by the nrl when the blues run around in a jersey with VB plastered in the guts of the jersey-joke.

good on gallen for telling the nrl and ch9 that they should not use his fight to promote the next origin game since he got suspended for the act.

                Haha! Too funny stephen.

You would have expected them to do that just like they continue to refer Watts as a former Rooster even though he never played for us.
