South Sydney sack Jason Taylor, appoint John Lang as coach
    By Phil Rothfield
September 17, 2009 South Sydney coach Jason Taylor has been sacked by the Rabbitohs, who have called a press conference for 4pm this afternoon to formally announce the decision.

The club has appointed John Lang as the replacement coach on a two-year contract. The decision to sack Taylor was ratified in a board phone hook-up on Thursday afternoon.

Taylor has been informed of the decision and is considering his legal options.

Good riddance to one of the most hateful people in the NRL.

Rusty can employ him as a garden gnome at Nana Glen.

I can't say I've ever liked the bloke. He's got those really shifty evil eyes.

And how lame was Rusty's 'apology'. Fark me - when you feel you have to remind a bloke of Taylor's age of his obligations and standard of behaviour, you have to wonder why you employed him in the first place.

Fatarse Richardson finally got his bum buddy mate Lang the top gig...was only a matter of time. Lard arse has been looking for an excuse to get rid of Taylor since Lang came on board.

        Chook.

The irony...a man who has a fist smacked in his face gets sacked by a man who once smacked a phone in someone's face.

Another young pisshead coach is punted and replaced by a respectible "old fart".

Trust the Vermin to copy our latest trend.

I would hope that the Roosters steer a wide berth from offering Taylor any type of position at the Club. We have pissheads aplenty enough already and it would be hypocritcal after punting Fittler for having the same character flaws as Taylor.

I thought you were of the opinion all you needed were good players to be a good side?

Taylor made: coach's career highs and lows

                            September 18, 2009

1990 Promoted to make first-grade debut for Western Suburbs after just two reserve-grade games. Aged 19 and weighing just 66kg, bypasses Presidents Cup under-21s after being placed on a scholarship two years earlier.

1993 Makes NSW debut from reserves bench after being selected but not used in the opening match by Blues coach Phil Gould. Comes off the bench again in Origin III but, despite the Blues' series win, does not represent NSW again.

1994 After 86 games for Wests, moves to North Sydney, where he becomes the club's captain and one of their biggest stars.

September 1996 Leads voting from the start of the season to become only the second North Sydney player to receive the Rothmans Medal as the game's best and fairest player.

January 1997 A beer-soaked Taylor is seen live on national television being escorted from the SCG for unruly behaviour during a cricket ODI. Taylor and several North Sydney teammates had been backing up from a buck's party the previous night and it is alleged some players urinated in cups and threw the contents over patrons during a Mexican wave. Taylor is axed as an Australia Day ambassador by Central Coast organisers.

October 2001 Retires as the game's leading pointscorer with 2107 points after a successful move to Parramatta that fell just short of an elusive grand final win when the Eels were stunned by 32-24 by Newcastle after being runaway minor premiers. After a season in which he proves the critics wrong, Taylor saves his worst for last and turns in a horror performance in the premiership decider.

October 2005 Stamps his credentials as a coach of the future when he guides Parramatta to victory in the premier league grand final in his first season in the job.

May 2006 Gets his chance in the NRL after being appointed Eels caretaker coach following Brian Smith's resignation. South Sydney sign him as co-coach with Shaun McRae for 2007 but Taylor remains with Parramatta for the rest of the season and steers the team to an unlikely finals berth.

September 2006 McRae is sacked as Rabbitohs coach in favour of Taylor but is asked to stay on as football director - he declines.

July 2007 A disagreement between Taylor and new Parramatta coach Michael Hagan over the pre-match warm up spills over into an ugly exchange of words after his return to Parramatta Stadium with Souths when the pair cross paths. ''How f---ed are you?'' Taylor is overheard telling Hagan. ''You're living off what Brian Smith built here, while he's up in Newcastle rebuilding what you f---ed up.''

September 2007 The Rabbitohs make the finals for the first time since 1989 but are eliminated in their opening match against Manly at Brookvale Oval.

May 2008 Rabbitohs co-owner Russell Crowe is seen arguing with Taylor at 6.30am outside a Darlinghurst cafe after the appointment of John Lang as the club's director of football. Souths had won just one match from their first 10 outings for the season. They finish the season in 14th.

September 2009 After again missing the finals, Taylor joins his players for end-of-season festivities at Forresters Hotel. Wearing a karate suit, Taylor is punched to the ground by David Fa'alogo after reportedly karate-chopping the second-rower. Yesterday, his Souths contract was terminated over the incident.

Can someone recall what it was that prompted Taylor to cry (or almost cry) during a post-match conference in 2008 or 2007?
