Yeh, I watched the Under 20's game on Foxsports...shame they didn't have the rights to the Grand Final too.
At the end of the day though the money they get from the ads is what allows them to buy the rights so you can't really complain. -

One digital does a great job with sports and if any free to air station gets the grand final, it should be a dedicated sports channel !

Imagine living in Melbourne, they couldn't watch their NYC Grand Final as Channel 9 were screening the 1953 movie Mogambo, the same movie they screened in Melbourne 4 weeks ago on a Friday night in Prime Time instead of showing the Parra v Dragons final... The kicker was immediately after the full time siren they switched to the Channel 9 news and didn't show the post match celebrations, presentations and interviews etc... Ch9 in Melbourne is the biggest disgrace to our game. Imagine having major games on after midnight on Fri nights. Who the fk are they helping? The AFL? Do they hope to suck up to the AFL so they can get the rights again?
The NRL should make it compulsory for any channel that bids for the rights in 2011 to show games live around Australia or at 1 hour delay at worst. Fkn spineless administrators!Comment

Channel 9 in Melbourne has 6 hours worth of AFL shows.. In Sydney we get 4 hours (not counting matches) of NRL shows.. They have a vested interest in keeping relations with the AFL as they are going to make a huge play for the AFL rights.. The coverage RL gets in Melb is a joke. Trade week in the AFL was getting more coverage. RL appears about 6 pages in from the back page of the papers with AFL dominating the first pages. Can't imagine what it would have been like if a Melb team was not playing in the GF
As for 9, they were playing the game live from 4.30. Why does the AFL insist on broader coverage of its big day across the country in its contracts with the TV stations?
The AFL release its draw, includings dates of each game, prior to the season. The NRL sits back and allows CH 9 to decide who plays when 5 weeks in advance. The NRL has no balls. Gallop needs to grow someComment

Our game needs to be smarter tbh....when do we expect Nein to throw their ads in? We should stop the time after each kick at goal for ~20 seconds and throw an ad in like the AFL do. I also wouldn't mind 1 team timeout per half as well for ~30 seconds to bang some in as well - as a trade for NONE of the actual match being missed.Last edited by elo; 10-07-2009, 10:03 AM.Comment
