Having watched the reply of the grand final again the other day, I particularly took extra attention in watching DCE from the time Manly hit the front 18-8 around the 50 minute mark.

DCE did nothing from this moment on other than miss tackles that led to tries. The only good thing he did was in the 79th minute where he found touch from a tap restart.

How he got the Clive Churchill medal is beyond me.

Bozo Fulton and his cronies are all clowns. If they didn't want to give it to SBW, Maloney was a standout.

      absolute joke.

Totally agree. DCE decision was ridiculous. His first bomb went backwards, twice in 1 tackle he kicked into the head of the defenders. He missed numerous important tackles. All those judges need to be drug tested. There is at least half a dozen players that should have been ahead of him.

DCE had a great 10 minutes after half time, outside of that he struggled to steer his side round the park and capatalise on good field position.

Easts should create an award the Dave Brown Medal or the Arthur Beetson Medal for the best player in the GF this year, Dally Messenger has the best and fairest awards named after him.

Seriously who wants to win an award named after a SouffS player.

Exactly his 1st half kicking was poor in general bar 1 kick which was good , he was good for about 15 mins into the 2nd half with his running game then went missing again.......
Even Rothfield had this to say in one of his columns :

" The Clive Churchill Medal goes to a player from the losing side - Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans. He played a great game for the losing side, but the award should have gone to either five-eighth James Maloney or hooker Jake Friend, who produced blinders in the premiership winning team "

Just sour grapes from Idiot Bozo and Knobhead Mcarthy....

It was a shocking and purely agenda driven decision.

Bozo is a Manly boy and McCarthy is a Souffs relic who hates the Roosters.

For me the Award was between Sam Moa and Maloney. Jimmy had a massive hand in 3 out of 4 tries, defended well (think of his crucial tackle on Foran which saw him lose the ball) and kicked a nerves of steel 5-5.

Exactly how DCE won over Jimmy for a dynamic 10 minute period surrounded by 70 minutes of bad kicking, poor organising in attack and crucial poor tackle attempts is pathetic.

So many of the problems within the game is highlighted by the influence these old relics still have in the game.

There is no denying that DCE had a great game, because he did. Manly would have put any other side to bed and he would have starred.
I do disagree strongly though with the decision to award him with the Clive Churchill medal. It wasn't a tight game at all at the end. People keep telling me, "Another five minutes and....".
Well, another five minutes and we would have beaten them by 14 or even possibly 20. The fact that we beat them by eight points and an opposition player is awarded the medal is beyond me. Maloney swung the game back in our favour via the line-break off of SBW. He also set up the first try with a play that most halves wouldn't have handled (considering the magnitude of the situation); and which was vital in lifting the team at that stage of the game. It was also his grubber that Jennings scored off. While Jennings made him look good in that situation, Maloney still had the foresight to set up his strike centre.
The DCE award is an out-and-out farce.
For the record, SBW did not deserve the medal. His first half was up there with the Storm game and the second Sharks game.

Whether or not SBW deserved the medal or not is debatable. The more I watch the second half again, you could argue that without his performance and presence in the second half, the Roosters may not have won. His runs in the second half broke Manly's spirit.

It definitely is difficult to evaluate SBWs game, because his two halves were the polar opposite to one another. You can pretty much cancel out that SKD try with the first Taufua try.
