There were really only 2 in most tackles in the first 2m 30 secs of the 2013 GF.
The third man in could be abolished without much drama?

      [We have 50+ scorelines now].

Two man tackles...and the ref calling held when the player's forward or sideways progress has been stopped and his arms stationary...before the lifting, and third man in happen.
As it is now you almost have to ram the player and his head thru the ground halfway to China before the refs call held.
You already complain so much about the officiating of matches why not add another grey area into it by limiting tackles to two men only. Imagine the uproar when Cordner runs that perfect line 5 m out and is held by two men and the third man pushes him back in the last stretch to stop him from scoring. You will be screaming the house down for a penalty try. There will 6 of them awarded every match if you limit the tackle to two men only.
I'm starting to come around to the idea of no lifting what so ever I'll admit that but all your other suggestions are a bit out there mate

Mate think about what your saying can you imagine trying to police that ..

What happens when a 110 kg forward is dragging two smaller guys over the try line are the rest of the team suppose to just stand there and watch it happen ..

For those out there offering signs of sympathy towards the perpetrator McLean, digest this first.

This is the same guy who blindsided Kane Evans with a cannonball tackle last year during a NSW Cup game resulting in Evans tearing his ankle ligaments and out for 12 weeks post surgery.

Perhaps during his time-out young Jordan should have a good hard look at himself and reconsider his defensive techniques.

            No sympathy from me.
I said here in another thread before the judiciary hearing that he was lifted past the horizontal then driven into the gound, weighted to the ground by three huge men.
Only one was charged, but the others also stated as partly responsible at the judiciary hearing by the prosecution.

Only took the judiciary panel 10 minutes to decide a guilty verdict.

IMO McLean is lucky he only got 7 weeks.

If the NRL had banned all lifting tackles long ago, Alex McKinnon might not have a very serious spinal injury today.

I'm not the only one suggesting it.
Although, we could start with banning all lifting tackles and see what happened.

Can't be having any more players ending up in wheelchairs.
As a fan/spectator, for whom the players are performing, I feel some responsibility to try to make the game safe for them to play.

More than one person rang the radio yesterday and in days before that also saying that all lifting tackles should be banned.

Gman I am inclined to think along your lines.
The tackle became an illegal tackle by his involvement. Why is that type of tackle illegal, because it has the chance of causing serious injury.

There are so many ignoramuses on the TV and radio expressing points of view, "2 only in the tackle" what a load of bullshit
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

Don't ya just love free speech?

If there had only been 2 players in the said tackle, would Alex Mckinnon's spinal injury be as bad as it is...or have even happened at all?

Take one of the 3 huge and very heavy men out of the tackle, the 3 huge and heavy men who compressed his body into the ground.

                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfi12DmW2wg

Pause it, then play it, slow it down...now imagine only two players in the tackle.

IMO your so called 'ignos' have a genuine case...although banning all lifting tackles first is probably the best way to go.

Correct KB. Footballers know that going between the legs and lifting is a big NO NO because it could have dire consequences. Unfortunately in Alex's case it went disastrously wrong. If McLean performs a standard around the legs tackle all is OK.

What infuriates me even more is the clear fact that grubby, illegal & unorthodox tackling techniques emanate from the Storm club i.e chicken wings, grapple tackle etc, etc...Other clubs watch & follow if it's allowed to flow. Time for the NRL to scrutinise their mode of operandum more closely. I've never liked that Bellamy farkwit. I'm so proud to have a leader like TRobbo and the principles he instils in our players i.e. not playing for penalties.

Spot on. The Storm gave us the crusher tackle, the chicken wing, the knee locks etc.. Everyone was saying during these tackles that it was only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured. It is no coincidence that this horrible injury was caused by none other than the Storm.

What i find the most grubby/frightening is when players (not just melbourne, but it originated from there) place pressure on the neck or head of an attacker, which causes the attacker to lay motionless in fear of causing an injury to themself.

The end result is the defending team slow down the play the ball and set their line but only because the attacker doesnt want to speed up the play the ball in case of injuring themselves.

                        Very grubby.

While ever we play this game there is bound to be accidents and on occasions someone will get seriously hurt. We hope it is not often but there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Even a simple and correct tackle around the legs could lead to an attaker hitting his head hard on the ground, twisting his neck accidentally as he falls etc. If there are knee jerk reactions in rule changes etc it will be to the detriment of the game as we know it. They may as well play netball.
