  • New Zealand Warriors choose Krisnan Inu over Willie Mason

THE cashed-up New Zealand Warriors last night said they would be willing to talk to Willie Mason - but they would rather nab Krisnan Inu, who is in the final year of his deal with the Eels.

With about $200,000 left under the salary cap for 2010, the Warriors are on the hunt for an outside back but said they would talk to Mason should he make an approach to them.

"We prefer a winger,'' Warriors CEO Wayne Scurrah said. "That is not to say we wouldn't talk to [Mason] or that we are not interested, but it is a matter of priorities. We are a bit thin out wide and we have been in the market for an outside back. But we are interested in quality players.''

The Warriors are keen to poach Inu from the Eels, but it seems unlikely the former New Zealand centre would be granted a release despite the addition of dual international Timana Tahu to an already formidable backline. Mason's options are thinning by the day, with no less than five clubs shutting the door on the former Test forward.

Headline has little relevance to the actual story. What a suprise.
