    LOL!

The UFC is rapidly declining as the novelty is starting to fade. they pay there fighters terribly for the punishment they take...a UFC champion would be lucky to to make half of what a champion boxer makes...i agree that the best should fight the best...but at the same time i dont think a brand should have total control of a fighters career.

I respect the art of MMA but its hard for me to be a fan of a company that treats there sport like cheap entertainment...watch the commercials its just "Show as much blood as we can"... not to mention the whole hitting someone 2-3 more times after there KOed is not only dirty but pure dangerous, yet they use it as part of there marketing.

that is a myth that the ufc have been planting in everyones head.. Boxing is not at its pinnacle thats for sure but its still purring along and doing its thing, the UFC is a flash in the pan and has been on the decline in recent times. they tell us that boxing is dead yet Pacquiao vs mayweather (even now when its way past its used by date) would make more money and be watched by more people then anything the UFC has or ever will produce. Boxing aint dead...its sleeping..it aint the oldest sport for nothing, it will be here after the ufc is just a memory.

Footy players are not propping up boxing at all...the media turned on boxing in this country some time ago, there are plenty of great aussie fighters coming thru the ranks but sadly unless your a NRL player the media wont give you a shot.

lol what? Don't presume to know what I know about boxing.

It's a great sport with a storied history buy if you don't think it's plagued by farcical judging, refereeing and in ring shenanigans (see Danny Green v Briggs) then you're kidding yourself.

where ever a bet can be placed corruption thrives...so your point is pretty pointless as there is no more farcical reffing etc in boxing then there is in NRL,Soccer,MMA and every other sport out there someone can make a dollar out of...the only reason boxing gets a worse rap is that it was the number 1 sport during the 40s-70s when the mafia were at its peak... Im not defending some of the terrible farces we have seen in the sport but its no worse then anything else in sports....and i can only presume your knowledge of the sport by what you say, and in your first comment you were very dismissive of the sport which made me assume you do not truly understand it...i have been watching it since i was a kid..from John L Sullivan to jack Johnson,Louis,Marciano, Sugar ray robinson up till now and i know as well as anybody the black eyes it has received but the good outweigh the bad by a lot and i hate when people just dismiss the sport like that.

Boxing changed when they added more weight divisions to the traditional 8 besides adding more governing bodies to the existing WBA WBC - commencing with the IBF which at the time when Fenech beat the Jap it was not highly regarded at all.

Boxing has been a joke since the 80's. Funnily enough since Don King raised to prominence.

As far as I am concerned it is as much a "sport" as wrestling.

I merely stated that the sport veers between the majestic and farce on a yearly basis.

                      I don't believe that's inaccurate.

And you must have been pretty old to have seen Jack Johnson! What about Sam Langford, I'd love a first hand account of him!

Maybe it's just luck for me but I have watched a heap more top world title fights that lived up to the hype than I have seen dud fights.

                              Marvlin Hagler v Tommy Hearn
Sugar Ray Leonard v Tommy Hearn
                              Roberto Duran v Marvlin Hagler
Smokin Joe v Ali number 3 The thriller in Manilla
Ali v Foreman Rubble in the jungle.
                              Jeff Fenech v Azumah Nelson
                              Floyd Mayweather v Saul Alveraz
                              Kostya Tszyu vs Zab Judah
are just a few of the classic boxing matches Ive watched. The Sam Soliman v Garth Woods which I attended on a Sunday arvo at the Hordern Pavillon is the best fight I have ever seen.

Ricky Hatton, Riddick Bowe, Mike Tyson, Prince Naseem Hamed, Zab Judar, Manny Pacquiao even Jeff Harding have all fought classic matches that I watched live on PPV.

There will always be classic boxing match ups & when they come around it is probably the best that any sport has to offer IMO.
2 trained fit men who go toe to toe & put everything on the line for up to 12 rounds is beautiful to watch.
