I had to sit through over 10 mins of highlights of the 2 AFL trial games (calling it a pre-season comp dosnt make it any more significant, its still a trial game), to finally get to a 30 recap of the storm game and the roosters v tigers game. Not only do foxtel televise every afl trial game, with proper camera work and decent commentary, they also dominate the airways on the news. No league trials are televised, and the minute coverage we see on the news is an amateurish package looking like it was shot with a handycam.

This is why the NRL will lose the battle of the codes in the long run. We have no idea how to market the game. Just look at all the shows on tv dedicated to AFL...all we have are the pathetic thus night show and the Peters Sterling loves Andrw Johns show on Sundays. The roast is slightly better but unwatchable after the first 10 mins. Cant wait for Matty Johns and Hadleys show.

Add to that one of the worst websits for a sporting organisation. The NRL site is pathetic. no stats, no history, no videos of past games,....how do I find out what the score was in the '73 semi final? or who the leading pointscorer was in '96? why cant I stream games from the past?

Also where is the tradition....every fricken year a club changes its name, emblem, logo, team colours, jursey, etc. God knows what colours teams like penrith or the warriors will be this yr.

Next time your at JB hifi check out the selection of AFL dvds compared to NRL. If you want to go even further, play one of the afl dvd's, and then play the nrl dvd and look at the difference in quality.

Fox make the AFL the leading story in the bulletin and this Victorian Bitter, just talks constant AFL shit, quotes obscure meaningless stats and even more obscure names of players who knowbody knows and nobody cares about.

It has nothing to do with marketting. The AFL cough up big dollars for coverage. The NRL dont...its that simple. The AFL even make their trial series a mini round robin comp, and its covered like its the friggen Grand Final every week.

In the end, the NRL is the blame. No vision. No money. No smarts.
