I just read that about flanagan.

What I dont get is why the spoilt brat sticky doesnt step down immediately since flanagan is there to take over. Instead they are going to let sticky create even more damage for the rest of the year by him staying in charge. Sounds like the sharks board is more useless than anyone thought previously.

smart move by Ricky Stuart. His career was never going to advance at Cronulla. They just haven't got the resources to be competitive. I see it as a similar situation to Brian Smith quitting Newcastle. He was never going to win that elusive premiership at the Knights, they just haven't got the cash or the ability to secure big name players. at the Roosters, he's got a chance. Ditto Stuart at Cronulla. It seems pretty certain that he'll sign with Wests. Much more to work with there.

Good luck Ricky - you're one of the best! your effort to get the Sharks to equal first two seasons ago was one of the best coaching efforts I have ever seen.

apart from that one year in 2008, you havent mentioned all his other glorious coaching "efforts" in the last 6 years.

Agree. They should tell him to go once Flanagan returns from Origin duties

Flanagan has only been appointed head coach as he is under contract next year. They can't afford another payout - having just paid Sticky a settlement....oh wait, he said he quit Yeah right Supercoach

Tom/Bob - where do you rate his effort as equal wooden spooner in 2009?

to be fair, he only had 1 bad year at Easts, and that was 2006. We might have missed the finals in 2005, but only by one win.

2007 he improved Cronulla dramatically. then in 2008 they were joint minor premiers. Last year? Hopeless, obviously. but it didn't help that Bird was sacked, leaving a gaping hole in the halves. With the talent (or lack of)Cronulla have got, he's done well with them, in my opinion.

He's like every other coach, he needs the cattle.

I can never get the negativity thrown Stickys way by many on here
We may still be after that elusive gf victory had he not come and instilled the competitive fire into our players.

I have always said that he should only be at most a 3 year coach at a club as players tend to tire of his ways pretty quickly. If you have a roster like the Tigers now or ours in 2000, 2001 sometimes you need a coach who will bring the competitive fire too get to the next level RS has that in spades.

well the problem is, they confuse their dislike of the man with his ability to coach. A common problem. you see it all the time on the forums, "oh such and such is shit - i hate him", etc. It's kids stuff.

His inability to recruit and retain the right players has always been his major problem. I think we all know he can get teams up for any game, their fitness and defence will always be first grade standard but he has no concept of balance in a team. In one year he let Kimmorley, De Gois & Kingston go, who did he bring in? Corey Hughes and Tampon Barrett.

Like there wasn't enough egg already on his face after 2009 he came out and said that he got rid of Kimmorley because he couldn't perform in the big games... lucky he did that or he could've been a liability in all the big games they've made since he left

He's a stubborn bastard who wont take help from anyone, and that'd be fine if he was an awesome coach but he's not even close. It's why at both clubs he's been at, the Roosters and Sharks both peaked in his first year in charge... I'm sure his next club will do the exact same.

I can see why Rooster fans still dislike him, I can see why the Sharks fans are stoked to see the back of him and I can see why the Tigers fans are shit scared of getting him. Long term security is a lot better than one good season.

I don't hate him but I don't really care. I'm not surprised, if anything I thought it would happen sooner.

He is a smart man, especially RL wise. Maybe more so on the field than off , but smart none the less.
What makes him a poor coach is his people skills.
This is why the Roosters struggled when Cartwright left, he has good people skills and was the buffer that Ricky needs.
