I dont think its that confusing and its common sense..
Anywhere else on the field the BALL can be in the air and over the line and it's not out of the field of play. This rule doesn't change that nor its relation to the corner post and just creates a stupid inconsistency where none existed before; until now the player with the ball in hand and the ball were inseparable in terms of the boundaries of play.

Its just fiddling for the bloody sake of it, and improves nothing. Change for the sake of one commentator's idiotic campaign.

And all arguments to "common sense" are never proper arguments, just assertions. Common sense is usually neither common nor sensible when it comes to it.

IMO its a rule we shouldve changed when the video reff came in. There is no need for the cornerpost with a video reff, its purpose was to assist officials with kicks and tries. A video reff looking for the try doesnt need another reason to disallow, the touching of an imaginary verticle line only in the 4 corners of the field, its a bit stupid having such a restriction when its outlived its purpose I guess. FFS the carnts get it wrong often enough, lets make it reeeeel easy.

In saying that I hope they remain in place as token barber poles at least, they are great for the nostalga value and must assist kickers looking for the touchline without the ball going ingoal. Also I hate the video reffs, so I wouldnt have any need to actually do away with the rule.

Funny its come just when other far bigger questions are being asked of our games owners. Kinda a red herring some may say or a carrott.

Corner posts have been part of the game for yonks.
Now they have become a blight on the game because a few commentators have nothing better to do than want to big note themselves as having had a rule changed.

Surely there are more important issues in the game that need addressing rather than fidgeting with the corner posts.

        Let them be I say.
If they are sagging on an angle, surely there are enough bludging officials who are being paid to stroll around the edge of the field who could spend 10 seconds of their precious time to straighten them up !

I assume it's could be the case of the corner post blocking the ball from rolling out of the field of play.

Good call. I agree with the new rule. Up till now if the corner post was touched, the player was out. With the post being bent and not straigthened up, the rule does not apply. So it was conditional that the post was at the correct angle and in place to enforce that rule. Now, it does not matter.

I think it's a good change. People may say 'we won't see those miraculous tries anymore'. Think about all the great 'no tries' that would have been tries, had they not come in contact with the corner post

I can't understand what the fuss is. This is just going to make the video refs job so much easier. He no longer has to worry about the corner post when ruling on a try decision. Can't understand why some people are so up in arms about it.

Yeah we could use steel posts
