On the other hand the Dragons are definitely in their premiership window. If other clubs were chasing him for longer term deals it makes sense to tie him up for when you want him most even if you have to take him for a bit extra. They don't necessarily need guys for the future, they are a puzzle with very few missing pieces. Even if he is a bit of a passenger towards the end, Gasnier playing as a passenger is probably still better than a lot of guys. Also can pass on some great experience to whatever young guys they do manage to keep.

If he was to help them to win 2 in the next 4 years you would take that rather than running second or third for 4 or 5 with some good yound bloke.
