  • Panthers re-sign Gordon

Penrith have beaten off an approach from NRL rivals Cronulla to retain NSW Origin winger Michael Gordon.

Hot on the heels of Michael Jennings signing a new four-year deal with the club last week, the Panthers on Monday announced Gordon would remain at the foot of the mountains until the end of the 2012 season.

Gordon, the NRL's leading pointscorer this season with 164 points to his name, has enjoyed a breakout campaign which was capped by this month's Blues call-up.

"We are certainly pleased with keeping Michael at the club," Leary said in a statement.

"He has progressed very well since making his debut in 2006 and was deservedly rewarded with selection in the third Origin game this year.

"It's a good time to stay with the club too - we have locked away a number of key positions and Michael was another one of those integral parts to the team.

"With the group of players we have, the future of the club is looking particularly bright."

The good news for the club off the field is in stark contrast to their form on it with the Panthers desperate to end a three-game losing streak when they host North Queensland on Friday night.
