has there been a more overrated player in the history of professional sports? future immortal???

I just dont see it, he does nothing but put bombs on the last, and 2nd man passes to the fullback, yet gets all the credit whenever the Broncos win. Sure he has some good touches now and then, but surely as a 5/8 he is miles away from Fittler, Daley, Kenny, or even Lamb and Lyons league. Even at fb I would not rate him as highly as Slater.

I disagree. I think Lokyear has been a great 5/8 and fullback. How many times has he won it for them? Without him, the Broncos would have been nothing in the last 12 years. Well, they have had other good players but Lockyear has been one of their best for club and state.

Lockyer has been a great player, but there is a huge hype around him.
I would not have him as an immortal for 1 reason and one reason only, in my books any immortal has to be a great defender.

Our club made a big play for Lockyer a few seasons back and very nearly scored him.
I bet this thread would be non existent if we had of signed him...

That sums it up perfectly. His last really good year was in 2006. Some of his performances for Australia in the last couple of years have been average to say the least. Carney has shown the value of having a genuine five eighth who runs the ball. Lockyer has lost that speed he once had and teams now know they don't have to worry about him cutting them up.

I will say his value to Brisbane isn't measured just on his performances though. He brings them a calm assuredness because of his experience and ability in clutch situations. If Lockyer wasn't there last night we would have put 50 past the Broncos.

He has also contributed to 3 Premierships and a Super League Premiership, as well as countless Origin wins including Qld's golden period just recently. Those accomplishments put him ahead of a couple of the other players mentioned.

Parker, Thaiday and Wallace carry that team. In regards to Qld, if Lockyer isnt there, they still have that golden patch...if Thurston isnt, they dont. I truley do not understand the hype....what has he ever done at 5/8 that any other 5/8 dosnt do week in week out.
