CONTROVERSIAL rookie Blake Ferguson has exercised the get-out clause in his Cronulla contract to sign with Canberra.
Ferguson sparked a public furore in the Shire a month ago when he declared he was considering walking out on the Sharks to join a club capable of winning a premiership.
The rookie flyer, considered one of the hottest prospects in the NRL, had a get-out clause in his contract if former coach Ricky Stuart left Cronulla.
Ferguson has today opted to utilise the clause, signing a two-year deal with Canberra for 2011-2012.
His signature is a major coup for the Raiders, who will now field an immensely talented emerging roster next season.
Canberra released a statement at 11.47am which read: "The Canberra Raiders have continued their strong recruitment for season 2011, with news today that Cronulla Sharks winger Blake Ferguson will join the club on a two year deal.

"Ferguson, who represented the Indigenous All-Stars in the inaugural NRL All-Stars match on the Gold Coast earlier this year, will bolster the Raiders outside backs, giving them one of the most exciting backlines in the NRL.
"Ferguson said he’s excited about joining the Raiders next year.
“The Raiders are a young team on the rise and have some very talented players and I’m keen to be a part of this team moving forward,” Ferguson said.
“I like the idea of playing for Canberra in a one team town and I have also got some family close by who are very supportive of my decision to play for the Raiders.”
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the signing of Ferguson was great news for the club and showed the team could attract high profile players to Canberra.
“It’s great to have Blake on board for two years, he’s an exciting young player who will fit in well with the team we have down here,” Furner said.
“With Blake joining the club next year along with Brett White it shows the Raiders are an attractive option for players and the future looks very bright.”
Yep, raiders mate confirmed this. Good luck to him, would have been a wasted purchase

At a football club, there’s a holy trinity – the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don’t come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques.

The fireworks at the Easter show are making more noise than the crowd tonight
very glad the he has signed with the raiders and not us.....we should have enough depth without wasting a fair bit of money on a guy who hasnt shown much

I still think we need another outside back.
Considering players ready to play firsts NOW, we have....
Our wingers are:
Perret, Graham, Justin Carney
Our Centres are:
Linnet, SKD, BJ (who could be moved to the back row, but will probably remain in the centres given our depth there)
Not a lot of depth there for when we have the inevitable injuries. Mini doesn't have much backup at fullback either (no one really knows if Towers is up to the task at this stage).
I would hope Graham doesn't see a lot of firsts next year....
THANK GOD this overated hack is not coming to the mighty chooks, he has no loyalty, passion, couldn't give a shit about the club he is playing for and if it wasn't for that fluke of a try last year he would not be in 1st grade. Good luck Faiders
But going on what a lot of people have said, both Perrett and Graham are up the shit so we'll have Justin Carney and some lower graders to choose from.
Steve Naughton is seen as the next in line for FG isn't he?
id like to see him get a run possibly against NQ with either graham to be 'rested' or rest one of the forwards and move BJ back onto the bench/into the backrow now that we have an opportunity with linnett out. he could turn out to be exactly what we need/were looking for down the left and complement linnett perfectly....

Spot on mate i would love to see Naughton have a go and Graham out

Naughton has only played a couple of games this year with Newtown he has been out twice for long periods with a broken collarbone, he isn't fit enough for Newtown so no way he will be playing first grade this year.
